The Elvish Forms of Neurîta Species in Tai'Sans Hearth | World Anvil

The Elvish Forms of Neurîta

Neurîta, refers to the elvish ability to connect their mind to others, more specifically the individuals ability to establish a connection between themselves and another being.

Common aspects

Ultimately, all forms of Neurîta work on the same concept. The individual extending the Neurîta expends energy to link their own soul to the person they are connecting with. The end result is a link that allows for the transfer of emotion, memories and thoughts as they are forming. This connection is, in its base form, founded on equal terms, meaning that this transfer can happen in both directions and is dictated by the individuals performing it.   Because non-elves have a lot less experience with Neurîta, it effectively means that the elf gets to decide the terms of this exchange, though particularily strongwilled/focused minds may stand their ground. This power imbalance is part of the reason why most elves are weary of using Neurîta on people.

The eleven types of elves.

Out of the twelve Princes of the Dawn, or proto-elves, eleven formed descendant species, which all fall under the umbrella term of elves. They each have their own form of Neurîta, with its own quirks and twists.
  • Thulidaín: the descendants of Thulion are known for their wild nature and strong minds and bodies. Their form of Neurîta reflects this as Thulidaín view the connection as a challenge for control. Both participants try to extract what they seek to claim, be it memory or emotion. Because of this confrontational mindset, Neurîta and its use are frowned upon in Thulidaín society.
  • Faraith: Aithriels descendants have expanded their Neurîta abilities to beyond the sapient species. It allows them to be more deadly on hunts and more in tune with animals outside of them.
  • Circaliadae: Circalions descendants were primarily feral during their formative years and have mastered the art of entering Neurîta with just a glance of the eye. However as they became more cilivilized and founded Dorralia with the dwarves, they swore off Neurîta entirely. Those who used the ability despite their vow found themselves shunned by society.
  • Peithopterides: Neurîta in Peithemos children is limited to only the Issën sex (Peithopterides have three distinct sexes). In them however, the ability is so strong, that they can feel others intent without needing to connect via Neurîta and can even control someones actions if they do.
  • Mellhedhrén & Fuínmarr: Mellhedrén suffered from their Meldfather Markazz and seek to propagate this trauma. They can enter peoples dreams using Neurîta in which they can torment their victims if they choose to.
  • Aelf: Aolfians descendents chose to focus on memory, becoming enchanters by nature. They are able to access and then modify others memories, making them feared all over their home continent.
  • Euphrodai: The Euphrodai establish Neurîta via intercourse with their partner or partners. This intimate connection can foster a level of spiritual unity that is nigh unachievable otherwise.
  • Sothiordae: Thioras children are capable of stealing or exchanging knowledge at almost instantaneous rates via Neurîta.
  • Feyr: Freirans descendants are bound by specific rules they have set out to imitate Fae behaviour. They are however, also like Fae, experts at twisting words to get agreement and invitation out of unassuming victims. Should they gain access they are capable of stealing memory or even certain emotions from the other.
  • Uthelidaín: Uthelins children focus on recollection. Neurîta with an Uthelidaín is said to restore suppressed memories and allow you to remember that which has been forgotten.
  • Ninnai: The descendants of Liliethel are the most experienced practitioners of Neurîta. Their goal however is always to establish Neurîta between other non-elves in an attempt to mediate conflicts.

Wow! I love how you listed how each group has an entirely different approach to the same form of communication.

Check out Natural Magic : a coming of age fantasy novel, because life is hard enough when you're fourteen, even without saving the world. Or listen to it in podcast form .

Thank you! I really try to make different cultures feel different, so this makes me hopeful that I am at least partially succeeding here ^^
