Xovurak

(a.k.a. The Blight, The Corpse-Drake)

Xovurak was a powerful Dragon, and one of the greatest threats to plague the continent of Imera. Originally slain by an Orc warrior seeking to make a name for himself, Xovurak would rise again as an Undead monstrosity, driven to avenge their initial death. While the Wardens of the Radiant Shield and the Grave Knights were able to slay the beast, the trail of destruction Xovurak had left in his wake, as well as the undead scourge his rampage had unleashed upon the land, ensured that the legacy he left continues to inspire fear in those who hear of it, even a thousand years later.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Xovurak had a powerful yet slender body. After raising himself as an undead, his body had a more withered, decayed appearance.

Facial Features

Xovurak had a pointed snout, and two crescent-shaped horns.

Special abilities

Xovurak was a powerful magic user, with his most notable abilities being the ability to breathe a cloud of poisonous mist and the ability to control any surrounding plantlife. After being raised as one of the undead, many of these abilities became altered through necromantic magic: His breath ability became a cloud of necrotic energy that saps the life from anything caught in it before raising them as undead, he gained the ability to influence any nearby undead to follow and obey him, and his body constantly radiated necrotic magic that killed everything around him before raising it as an undead, which made approaching him especially dangerous.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Not much is known about Xovuraks early life, with the earliest mentions of him being found in the tales of the Orc warrior Lurog. According to these tales, Lurog and Xovurak had formed an intense rivalry with one another, which eventually culminated in a dual between the two. It was during this duel that Lurog would strike down Xovurak, a feat that would go on to become one of his most defining accomplishments.

Unfortunately, this would not be the end of Xovurak, for he had supposedly dedicated much of his time to studying how to use magic to lengthen his already long lifespan, even being said to have worked alongside a few Necromancers to this end. It was through his knowledge, as well as his own stubborn refusal to accept his own demise, that Xovurak would rise again as a revenant, a vengeful undead monstrosity driven by his hatred for his mortal rival. Now free to walk the earth once more, Xovurak set forth towards Lurogs homeland of Ordan, hoping to either find him there, or at least take his frustrations out on the home of his rival.

As Xovurak continued his journey north, the necrotic Aether radiating off of his body left a trail of death in hiswake, draining the life from the land and raising any fallen creatures near him as undead who mindlessly shambled after him. It didn't take long for these actions to draw the attention of the Wardens of the Radiant Shield and the Grave Knights, who sent whatever forces they could spare to hunt down and destroy Xovurak. Even the Dark Elves, upon hearing of this, sent some of their best warriors sout to aid them, and Lurog himself was said to join them to finish his rivals rampage for good. The fighting was intense, but eventually, Xovurak and his undead horde were slain for a final time, with his remains being thoroughly destroyed to ensure that he would not rise again. Even then, it's said that some pieces of him managed to survive even being crafted into various necromantic artifacts.

Failures & Embarrassments

Xovurak considers his first death at the hands of the Orc warrior Lurog to be one of his greatest failures, followed by his final death at the hands of the Radiant Wardens and Grave Knights.

Intellectual Characteristics

While he was highly intelligent in life, Xovuraks intellect suffered a sharp decline after being raised as an undead.

Morality & Philosophy

After rising as an undead monster, Xovurak was wholly obsessed with avenging his death, heedless of who might be caught in his path.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Xovurak was solely motivated by the desire to exact vengeance against Lurog for slaying him.

Representation & Legacy

Stories of Xovuraks rampage continue to inspire fear in those who hear them, and the Grave Knights still regard him as one of the most dangerous undead monstrosities they've ever had to face.
