Seleucus Martext Character in Tacillia | World Anvil

Seleucus Martext

Seleucus Martext is the number one, most famous, and most well-known explorer and adventurer of Tacillia. He doesn't think of himself as a treasure hunter but recognizes his fair share of finding and trading ancient artifacts and relics. He always says, when asked if he saw everything, that his work is not done yet, and before he dies, he would like to wander the uncharted territories on the other side of Cutter.
And that one is a strange sentence from him because those who know him are aware that he is hundreds of years old. He lived before the Rending and is not showing any sign of aging. He looks like a human that lived Then, but humans didn't live for centuries, so most folks think there is some elf blood in him too. Other people believe that he received some special abilities during Rending. Seleucus only says that when this topic comes up, he feels that he is not immortal and has already had near-death experiences a few times.
His fame started when people at the Parliament, like the famous Girig Covendelver began collecting the letters Seleucus wrote about Tacillia and publishing them as a guidebook to the planet. Seleucus wrote these letters while traveling to the farthest corners of the accessible continents. He even has some knowledge about the northernmost continent and the Southern Marshes, which are usually death traps for adventurers. The original copies of his letters are closely guarded at the Parliament.
Only a handful of people know that Seleucus is not a human, elf, or member of any species of Tacillia. He was born on another planet and came to Tacillia to explore and catalog it. During the Rending, he got stuck on Tacillia while his teammates were able to leave the planet in time. When everything calmed down, he decided to continue his mission and discover this new planet. He started writing his letters soon after he started his journey. Some reveal more about him than the masses should know, like his first letter. These writings are kept in the vaults of the Parliament. Only the Eminence and Seleucus have access to them.
The knowledge he selflessly collected is irreplaceable
