Al-Jazeed Kusuf
Stout and jovial, Al-Jazeed Kusuf comes across as grandfatherly despite being only middle-aged. He owns and runs the Inn of the Laughing Fountain with his family, and has a soft spot for the local urchins. He and his wife frequently pay the children a few coppers for odd jobs like running messages around Ka-Tepi, and make sure they have enough leftovers each day for the children to have at least one good meal. If he sees or hears of others caring for homeless children, whether of Ka-Tepi or elsewhere, he makes sure they receive favourable pricing when they next visit his inn.
His children are in their late teens, and help him to run the inn. His daughter Tayyiba is nineteen and works as a server in the taproom, while his fifteen-year-old son Ishaaq works in the taproom and also as a stablehand when guests have riding animals.
Al-Jazeed has close ties with the town Watch through his cousin Rasheed Khadran, who makes sure the Watch patrols near the Inn regularly. In return, Al-Jazeed ensures members of the Watch always eat well when they visit.
