Warg

A Warg is a four-legged and exceedingly cunning and intelligent wolf-like creature.

Warg are also often called direwolves by the fearful people of the City State of Styx; a confusing conflation as direwolves are both a morphologically distinct and not even closely related species and lacking the sapient intelligence that true Warg are known for.

The Dwarves of Deephold refer to Warg as Vargr and they feature prominently in the mythology of both the Aldtruth-Kept (as themselves godlike spirit beings) and the Church of the All-High (in the form of seven great Warg which pull the war-chariot of Eagan All-High.

It is said that they call themselves Vargkaelkinnas, a term that supposedly roughly translates to "Wolven Children of the Sky" a reference to their own creation myth that describes them as children of the Twin Wolf Gods Kahari-Cathan who themselves were born to the Two Gods Above Hael-Luen and Shaelune, a pair of ancient surface sky gods.

Warg are similar in shape to an even more powerfully built direwolf with a pronounced hump in its back as well as a mane Warg are said to be strong as a bear and similar in intelligence to the Races of Men and Elves.

Warg have elongated canines that protude over their lips giving them a tusked or sabretooth like look.
Their claws are similarly imposing and are said to be able to shred leather armor with ease.

Warg are feared far and wide with many tales of the Leshivoi Forest speaking of bloodthirsty and terrifyingly intelligent Forest Warg while there are similar stories of the White Warg of the Sixteen Peaks of Peryknos which are additionally associated with Witchcraft.

Warg are said to be culturally very important to the Lüngarmane of the Leshivoi Forest who treat them as their only equals among other species.

Warg are said to be cunning and brutal as well as aggressive in character, bluntly literal in their verbal expressions but fiercely loyal to those they consider worthy.

Warg, much like Lüngarm practice the tradition of Names of War and Peace where each adult member of a Warhost, the broadest societal unit known to the two entwined folk, carries a different name in times of war or peace.

Warg are sometimes considered to be truly intelligent examples of Spirit Beasts, Incarnae of the Allsēl of sapient spirit in an animal body.

Warg lack hands capable of tool use and as such reject the notion of the superiority of humanoid species by way of the making and using of tools and weaponry with their hands.
Warg commonly co-habitate with other species, intelligently making use of their tool use while providing the benefits of their own strength, resilience and superior sensory capabilities in cultural exchange.
