Roya's Letter
This document was supposedly sent by Roya to Steel Sky in response to the acts of Morgan "Peacemaker" Desmaraut in Musca System 232. While the letter has not actually arrived yet, a draft version of it was leaked and has already been analysed by many parties. Neither Roya nor her company, Cetus Corp, can be reached to verify the letter's authenticity on account of all their planets temporarily jamming Hyperspace communication. This very fact suggests the draft is genuine.
If real, the letter counts as a threat that Steel Sky would normally consider enough reason to retaliate. However, with the War of the Fishes still fresh in many people's minds, Steel Sky has not yet determined whether they're going to declare war on Roya in return. But with every passing day, their reputation suffers more from their inaction, making an all-out war more and more likely.
An annotated analysis of the letter follows below.
Roya's Letter
To those it interests of the leaders of Steel Sky, I write to you to express my concerns. Long have I despised your savagery, yet admired your unwillingness to harm civilians, as well as your punishment of any that still harm them. It is good to know that vicious brutes still have morals. Unfortunately this appears to be no longer the case. The mere act of expressing disgruntlement by civilians was enough cause for your Peacekeeper to murder. His victims were unarmed and their slaughter was unprovoked. And you let this be. He wished to escalate further, you called him off, attempting to put the genie back in the bottle. You are too late. As long as he still lives, there will be those that feel the need to take him down, as soon as possible. But to take down the Peacemaker, one will have to take down his entire brigade, lest they retaliate. To take down a brigade, one has to take down all of them, lest they retaliate. To take them all down, one should leave no survivors. You are at a crossroads. Bow and compromise your reputation, or stand tall against the Storm that comes your way. Alas, as I write this letter, I see no other options left. With that said, I hope you do the right thing.
- 02/08/2810 - Roya has meetings at Cetus 47 with at least a dozen Stormfarer groups. Some leave the system, others decide to 'stay on vacation'.
- 03/08/2810 - The draft leaks. Mere minutes later, all systems under Cetus Corps' command enter a full Hyperchat lockdown.
- 06/08/2810 - By now, the draft has spread wide. Steel Sky refuses to respond.
- 17/08/2810 - Information reports leak about the Stormfarers that met with Roya. All are unaccounted for.
