Alain Orlovsky
A capable alchemist and surgeon, Alain is widely regarded as the The Land of the Silver Star's foremost alchemist. He has conducted research and tests for decades in the pursuit of physical perfection. In recent years he has undergone operations and consumed mutagens to try and improve his physical performance, but they seem to come at the cost of some of his self-control on the battlefield. He is aware that his self-improvement has been to the detriment of those around him, and seems to be looking for ways to fix that.
Alain has consumed an Elixir of Gender Transformation and currently has a female body, although he still uses he/him pronouns.
While he has declined to serve as in the council of the Silver Star, Alain has agreed to try and put together a plan to evacuate Greyhaven and House Garess at Ragnar's request.
Alain is a powerful combatant, able to assume a more bestial form and attack viciously with claws and fangs. He is infamous in Restov for having "dismantled" the Stag Lord. His role as a front-line combatant has resulted in more than a few serious injuries and afflictions, including a short-lived case of lycanthropy in Drakeel. He was also in a coma for weeks after being drained by a Will-o'-wisp in Longtail Village after he was severely wounded in a fight.
Background
Alain is the only known surviving heir of House Orlovsky. While living with his House he lead a rigidly-defined, military-minded life, learning military and guerilla tactics. He eventually distanced himself from his house and left, traveling and researching for many years. He seems to be striving towards the physical perfection of Irori, though he doesn't seem actively religious otherwise. He doesn't seem to have any interest in reconnecting with his estranged family. When he first met his future companions in Restov, Alain initially called himself "Alain Barber" and claimed to be an ex-footsoldier for House Orlovsky.Experiments
Alain has dissected corpses and done vivisections on himself to further his knowledge of anatomy. He has also employed Bartholomew Delgado to perform surgeries on him to enhance his physical capabilities. As a result, he has horns and weird, unsettling bat-like wings. Once while being healed, it was observed that his internal organs have shifted from their natural locations. Alain also makes considerable use of mutagens to enhance his capabilities in collaboration with Bokken and Ragnar Garess. While Ragnar seems to limit himself to less esoteric mutagens which keep his mental faculties intact, Bokken is much more willing to embrace more extreme, potent, and behavior-altering mutagens. Most recently, Bokken provided a "perfected" elixir which permanently improved Alain's physical abilities. Alain says he goes adventuring to test his physical alterations in fights away from civilians to keep them from getting injured, but the mutagens and/or surgeries he has enjoyed have allowed him to lose control at times, especially when he tastes flesh and blood. During a fight with some Giant Wolverines he started eating the raw flesh of one after killing it, then attacked Kiin. Ranting, raving and completely delirious, he was eventually knocked out. After being restrained and restored he didn't remember that he had attacked Kiin. Troubled at his new tendency to attack companions, and how Bartholomew and Bokken don't seem put off by it, he has become somewhat distrustful of them, and he accused Bartholomew of doing something to him during a surgery. Bokken says he had similar experiences with losing control or memory of events. Alain is considering meditation to see if that helps, which Kiin has offered to help him with. Alturi has pointed out that Irori favors moving slowly and acting wisely, but Alain believes the abundant enemies make quick action necessary.Relationships
Between his altered appearance, attacks on friendlies, and his occasional willingness to perform painful or lethal experiments on sentients, Alain has become unsettling for some of his companions. There wastension between Alain and Kiin in particular after he lost control and attacked her. He attempted to apologize but it wasn't well-received as neither of them really understood why it happened or how to prevent it again. Kiin wants to help Alain and has encouraged him to pursue meditation. Alain has a familiar named Scalpel, a construct who retrieves his elixirs and mutagens.
