Triton

Moon of Neptune Neptune, Triton is the largest natural satellite. It is the only large moon in the Solar System with a retrograde orbit, an orbit in the direction opposite to its planet's rotation. Because of its retrograde orbit and composition similar to Pluto, Triton is thought to have been a dwarf planet, captured from the Kuiper Belt. If one was to look at Triton you would see a lightless mother of pearl surface. A beautiful dead world. Perhaps just old ruins and a dark deep crater, odd, but not surprising remnants of habitation. This would be a lie. The moon is alight with activity deep throughout its tunneled connective tissues. Triton, once a seat of wealthy industrialist, has turned into a world famed for their suspicious and frugal nature.
Life on Triton is difficult. The moon was never built to be self sufficient, as such everything was and is in many ways still rationed. Artificial station gravity is set to two thirds creating the famous Tritonmen - {bugbear} elongated body look. Eyes must be adjusted to living in darkness as lights are dim and far between. Food is focused on high intensity nutrient paste, and many traditional laws hold people to rigorous living and stoic natures. Outside light and windows largely do not exist, as Tritonmen view it as inviting attention where stealth is first and final defense of the moon.
Triton political system is a type of Parliamentary Republic, but one that deals in massive ten year terms to allow for long term planing. However some decisions are run through plebiscite and political deadlock can lead to early elections. In less legal terms Tritonmen also identify with clans and large groupings more akin to crime families. These clans often enforce even more rules among each other and form smaller political and economic blocks. 
Though Tritonmen are known for being superstitious and often seen as backwards, they have a rigorous scientific core. They were originally scientists hiding illegal research as hobby horses for the wealthy back during the day, however this stealth tech ended up key to their survival during the The First Wave and continues to be the avenue of technology the Tritonmen excel at.

Geography

With a make up not dissimilar to Pluto left it a moon mostly covered in nitrogen ice. Not wealthy in terms of material, the moon was chosen for it's beauty, the gas ice forming a mother of pearl coating on much of the moon which remains largely intact to this day.The geography is only broken up by three separate spaceports disguised as massive craters in the lower half of the moon and a handful of abandoned domes either in states of ruin or disuse. Beneath the surface are a endless assortment of tunnels and station space.

History

To understand Triton's history we must understand the fact that Neptune is the only planet in the solar system so far away from earth one can not see it with the eye. Neptune beautiful as it was attracted colonist less for it's industrial use, but it's distance from earth. Triton became a haven for the rich, elite, those who wished to live by the old Chinese ethos "The mountains are high and the emperor far away." As such the moon, while taking many many months of Gravity Engine based flight from earth to reach Neptune, was still a popular site of colonization as well as an over-funded candidate. Triton specifically was  the most massive moon and though not rich in materials, it's beautiful coating gave it undue status.

When the First Wave struck Neptune, the effects were disastrous. Moons were stripped bare, defensive platforms destroyed and dragged into the wave. However, thanks to an advanced warning from a station in the Kuiper Belt as well as the illegal lab on Triton working on stealth tech allowed the moon to operate undetected. Surface domes were burned and its people were consumed, however most had tunneled underground, using the low energy hydroponics and efficient water recycling meant to allow luxury exoplanets to eek out barest survival.
Tritonmen culture formed in that crucible of hunger and competitive resources. Clans formed around what were social clubs, corporate entities and labs. There was violence in the early days. However the most selfish stations slowly starved, and those that worked together and planned survived. When the worst of it has turned over to a base level of struggle. A unified government was formed, allowing voting on officials who could operate in long time scales needed to keep such a dire situation in line. Even then, a base fear was known to all Tritonmen, this was not a moon which could operate forever by itself.
Eventually during the Celestial Connection's era of exploration lead ships from Europa and Io to rediscovered the moon and the Tritonmen who call it home. Regarded both as saviors, they quickly joined the CC. However, they never stopped being a suspicious moon, secretive and ritualistic. They have perused isolationist policies and jealously guarded the secrets of their tech. So devoted to secrecy the Gate built for Triton was constructed in Neptune's orbit, not Triton least it bring the moon undue attention.

Tourism

Despite, gate travel has allowed Neptune to somewhat return to its popularity as a tourist local. Many speak of the beauty of this perfect blue planet and Icey rings of Neptune as well as the wonders of that pearlescent moon. Others wishing to explore Neptune's scar or collect ice treat the space station nearby as a weigh station of great report. Still, few people seem to share a desire to actually stay on Triton
