Blackstryde
Blackstryde is a Southern Province in South Gespara. The climate is hot, humid muggy and swampy for the most part until you reach the Skytouch Mountain Range to the west which borders with the desert-like climate of Eagle Rock.
Its name derives from two noble individuals who significantly contributed to the war effort in the Gesparan-Orleath Empire War. Blackie Ivels and Stryder Esbrook provided vital magical weapons and intelligence (respectively) for Gesparan forces and their efforts secured both families’ statuses as nobles after the war.
As a result there is a not-always healthy rivalry between the Esbrook and Ivels families in this region, with Blackstryde being the only province with joint capital cities one named in honour of the Stryder Esbrook and one named in honour of Blackie Ivels. To keep this rivalry out of the realms of South Gesparan politics successive Grand Commissioners have mostly ensured that Blackstryde Mayors are not from either of these families.
The current Mayor of Blackstryde (in 1954) is a woman named Felletryn (fell-a-trin) Valenshot.
The current Grand Commissioner of South Gespara is Herrick Valenshot (Felletryn’s Husband, go figure…also third cousin which is LEGAL and BARELY RELATED).
Each Major Settlement has a Lawmaster elected to keep law and order and manage basic admin of the City. Usually this is a contest between the Ivels and Esbrook families.
