Session One Recap
General Summary
In the midst of a galactic cold war the planet of Ord Mantell is tearing itself apart. The citizens are rebelling against the Galactic Republic, the Ord Mantell Central Authority is attempting to maintain order, but the underworld is taking advantage of the chaos. New criminal syndicates (including the Black Sun) have risen in the last decade. In a show of support for the planetary government the Republic has deployed the Virtuous to Ord Mantell.
An informant provided information that alerted Adminral Nooll to an imminent threat posed by the Black Sun. He enlisted the help of Jedi Knight Korrin to deal with the problem. He went down to the surface and pulled together a disparate group including the minor crime lord Dadlum, the newly installed Jedi Knight Baw'ivan'erri and a Republic deserter Habeeb.
In an effort to show his dedication (or maybe he just got the time wrong) Ivan showed up to the briefing several moments early. He took this time to formally introduce himself to Korrin. They realized that Ivan's first Master, Master Mostal, was a close mutual acquantance. Ivan recounted how Mostal fell in battle during the Sacking of the Jedi Temple.
Dadlum and Habeeb joined them and the mission was laid out. Based on the gathered intelligence the team was to survey a Black Sun Outpost in the Scraplands and, as quickly as possible, determine what the target of the attack was. He laid out the expectation that Rowjose Arcmas, the person in charge of this cell, should be taken alive and as much information as possible be extrated from the camp.
Before explaining the rest of the mission Korrin explained his true goal for this mission. He told the others that The Force had indicated to him that a powerful group would be assembled and he followed his intuition which led him to these three. He also described his strong belief that the team was not complete, but that he couldn't be truly sure.
He described the capabilities of the Virtuous and the assets that are available to the party. He then dropped the twist on them: "I want to see how you act as a team, and even though I have expectations as to how we should move forward I will follow your lead. I want to know how you intend to operate".
As soon as the party moved to the Situation Room to survey they options Dadlum indicated his strong preference for in person action. He wanted to touch base with his contacts in Worlport, but the party insisted he not take the time to go down to the planet. He instead tried to track some people down over holocomm and was able to get some basic information about the target. He established the fact that Ro-Joe is working on a big job, but no specifics were determined.
Habeeb researched recent events and pulled up some information about Senator Roswell and his recent surgery and that several Black Sun gangsters were killed while trying to escape Red House, but nothing pointed to anything specific. Ivan also suggested sneaking down to the surface and monitoring the camp from the surrounding hills, but Habeeb pointed out that in daylight they wouldn't be able to get close enough to the camp. Realizing that he hadn't even thought about how hard it is to be sneaky in daylight he agreed to wait until nightfall.
Over the next few hours the team leveraged their interns (enlisted people assigned to them) to varying levels of success (but really those interns were useless). Their surveys indicated that approximately 10-15 people were probably in the camp. Their most important success came when Dadlum hacked into their comm array giving them a direct line to the cell.
After successfully placing the hack Dadlum decided that he was done waiting. He hatched a plan where he would walk up to the gates of the compound and offer to sell his wares to the group. The others tried to talk him out of it, but he was insistent. Realizing the impasse, and also he just really wanted to go, Ivan suggested they all head down. Habeeb (not wanting to trust his fate to a random pilot) volunteered to fly them all down to the surface.
In an impressive display of his skill Habeeb touched the ship down on the far side of a large hill without the Black Sun patrols or lookouts noticing. Several moments after the ship was flown away by their co-pilot the party noticed a truck coming down the road from the outpost. As the truck approached the party hatched a plan where they would explain that they were scavengers looking to scavenge the destroyed buildings in the distance. Unfortunately.... the truckers were adamant that they should not approach those buildings because it isn't save. Realizing their ruse had failed Dadlum acted disappointed and said they would just sleep here and head back. The truckers offered to give them a ride, but Dadlum and Ivan insisted that they would just sleep here.
As the truck drove off towards Worlport, the party split. Dalum headed down the main road directly towards the gatehouse and the rest of the party (including Korrin) went east looking to sneak into the buildings just south of the compound.
Dadlum was met with weapons drawn, and he explained he was here to offer his business and wares. The guards summoned Rowjose. When he arrived he was obviously irritated and had his four guards surround Dadlum. Despite the tense session he kept his cool and said he just wanted to talk....
Meanwhile the rest of the party sneaked through the destroyed building. As they passed through Habeeb and Ivan were fighting a growing sense of unease. This building had no foundation or indication that it was ever a permanent structure. The scorch marks seemed to emanate from multiple locations and there were any items other than the walls.
They darted across the open space between the buildings and ducked into a window of the second building. The dark room was lit only by the skylight from above. As their eyes adjusted to the darkness they realized that the only thing in the room was a detonator on the wall and that there were wires extending throughout the rest of the building. The entire building was rigged to explode.....
