Star Wars (Cold War Era)

The Great Galactic War began when the Sith Empire rose out of the darkness and took the Galaxy by storm. The following 30 years saw the galactic order challenged. The Jedi Order had their reputation damaged by their inability to push back their old foes. The Galactic Republic was weakened through numerous military (and planetary) defections. The populace began to doubt the ability of the single government's ability to protect everyone.   The last decade of the war saw the Jedi and the Republic fight back the Sith Empire to a standstill. The entire galactic economy was turned towards building weapons of war and the resulting balance of power prevented either side from defeating the other. The sheer scale of a galactic war meant that victory in one area led to a defeat in another.   Suddenly the Sith Empire sued for peace and the Republic took the opening. The Republic still didn't understand their enemy. The Sith Empire used the peace talks as an opportunity to lower their enemies defenses and launch a sneak attack on Coruscant. The heart of Galactic power fell. The Jedi Temple was ransacked and millions of people murdered in the ensuing occupation. The Sith Empire leveraged that occupation into creating a peace that put the Republic into a weak position.   The years following that peace have been tense. The Republic is attempting to strengthen their internal power by pulling systems back into the fold. The Sith Empire is attempting to use that discord to sow more doubt in the Republic. Internally the Sith Empire is dealing with how they move forward. Their military hungers to finish the job that they started and the Dark Council is driven to infighting trying to increase their individual power.   In the meantime crime cartels have been using the Cold War to increase their power. They deal information and weapons to anybody willing to pay the price. They seek to gain power in every form, and they leverage corrupt government. New cartels are attempting to fill niche gaps that the old guard is unwilling to fill. These new cartels don't represent the old ways of "honor among thieves".   The galaxy is close to tearing itself apart and no one faction has enough power to secure victory. The blade of conflict hangs over everyone secured by only a single thread....
