Chief Hagus Howudra

The leader of the Howudra tribe, and warleader of all those clans which have agreed to throw their lot in with Howudra, Hagus is the most influential and powerful Gafhi alive. Though not formally leader of most of the Gafhi clans that comprise the Howudra confederation, Hagus has command in times of war and has broad support among the lesser chiefs within Howudra, giving him great influence.

A member of the semi-nomadic Howudra tribe, Hagus still lives the ancient Gafhi lifestyle, wintering in the valley closer by the river and going up the mountains in the summer. Since becoming the de-facto leader of all of the Gafhi in the northeastern valley, he has had to spend much more time outside his core tribe, and has had to choose a deputy to lead the Howudra in his stead when he is away.

Reign

Among the Gafhi, Hagus is known as the great conciliator. Having been able to unite clans that have previously quarreled over their territories, his greatest asset is a reputation for fairness. Able to get quarreling chiefs to eat from the same pot, Hagus has been able to keep a multipolar confederation functional, and has even been able to expand with the addition of more Gafhi clans on the periphery of the alliance.

He has been likewise effective in his other charge as the premier warleader of Howudra's warriors, though in this he has met his match in the Ras Gafhi Yaner. Unlike his counterpart in Harhoun, Hagus does not have and has not sought the sort of autocratic power a Thaner Ras has, and the Howudra confederation is at least nominally a gathering of equal tribes and clans. Against the Pillar of Horns, he has done better, as Gafhi tactics of harrying and slowing down their dragonthrall enemies while denying their supply has kept them from entering Howudra land in force.
