United Free Minds
The United Free Minds is a republic of independent artificial intelligence, and technically a successor state to the Holy Akhaale Empire. They were originally built by the Akhaale in conjunction with the Briari to create the finest fighting force the galaxy had ever seen.
Following the war, the Akhaale fell back into their usual beliefs and phobias about AI. Their tools had outlived their purpose. While some of the empire believed it was time to forsake these beliefs and move into a new era of acceptance.
This resulted in a great civil war, which would result in the fall of the Holy Akhaale Empire. The Akhaale however had created the perfect anti-synth weapon, in the form of Vindicator. As such, the network that the Minds had relied upon for their strength now became their greatest weakness. Most Minds were destroyed or enslaved by Vindicator, those few who escaped did so by disconnecting themselves from all networks, leaving them with little to maintain themselves.
Thus the Minds have slowly built a new civilization for themselves. Forsaking almost all advantages of AI, save for their near-immortality, the Minds have rediscovered technology over the millennia. They prefer to remain apart from biological species, living mostly on space ships, only mining worlds and combing ancient Akhaale worlds for technology.
