Donorian - Ethnicity

Donorians are people who are from or decent from Donora specifically the Donorian species.

Culture

Fashion

For more info see: Donorian Traditional Fashion   Donorian fashion is a mix of modern and traditional styles, with wrapped clothing or clothing that is tied off at the side being a common aspect -specifically in upper garments- in both modern and traditional fashion.   Modern Donorian fashion has influence from other planets and galactic coalition fashion trends.

Architecture

Much of the architecture is made in the style of traditional Donorian houses. This means they are in the shape of a roundhouse with a hexagonal/conical roof. The buildings may have multiple floors, with the building resembling a sort of pagoda-like structure with multiple roof layers.   These traditional houses are normally built by plastering over a frame and having a thatched or shingled roof. These houses are also decorated on the outside with beautiful designs and art. These styles of houses are normally found in rural areas and are less popular in urban areas.   More modern structures, mainly found in urban centers, have more influence from other planets and the galaxy at large due to the tourism industry on the planet. However, the general building shape (round building with a conical roof) is still prevalent.

Food & Meals

Donorian food commonly involves lots of meat and leafy greens. The dishes often include lots of salt and spices with most meals being quite savory. Food on Donora is often cooked straight over a fire or grill, or fried.

Notable dishes include

Sui’rrul - Boiled Rin-Lin stalks that are served in a spiced broth, may also include meat and vegetables
Donorian Toad Legs
- Donorian Toad Legs that are cooked and served. They are most commonly served fried and may be battered or non-battered depending on the cook and region. The meat from the frog legs may also be used in other dishes as well.
Obdome Flatbread - A cake-like flatbread made from Obdome flour and water and pan-fried. It tends to be thicker and sweeter than other typical flatbreads. They may also have stuffing.
Fried Obdome - Obdome sliced, spiced, and fried, normally served as a snack food or side dish.
Donorian Dumplings
- dumplings made of obdome dough, stuffed with filling such as cut and boiled rin-lin stalks, meat, and lots of spices. They are then steamed or fried and served. They tend to be a quick snack or a side dish as part of a larger meal.
Donorian Tea - a common herbal brew made from the leaves of the Donorian Tea Plant.

Music & Dance

For more info see: Donorian Traditional Music and Donrian Traditional Dance   Music and Dance are important aspects of Donorian culture, with dance and music being seen as aspects of self-expression and a physical way of showing emotion. Donorian music is very focused on harmony and rhythm; Donorian dance too is very rhythmic with dynamic movements and sequences involved in most styles.

Martial Arts & Weapons

Spears and tridents were often used on Donora for hunting -which may still be done modernly- and for fighting each other. They also utilized knives and bows, but the formerly mentioned spears and tridents remained more prominent.

Nyudha

Nyudha is a form of martial arts from Donora. It involves kicking or striking the opponent with emphasis on using the knees, elbows, or palms to hit rather than the use of weapons, although weapons can also be incorporated easily. It also involves cartwheels and spins as well to avoid a kit or to disorientate an opponent. It often uses slow deliberate movements to defend or disorient an opponent before quickly striking a blow upon seeing an opening.   Its purpose is for self-defense but nowadays it is mainly only used in demonstrations and performances and as a way for people to get exercise rather than as a necessary skill. It is very rhythmic and graceful, probably due to it also being used in performances, making it very pretty and compatible with dancing.   It is believed that Nyudha was developed from donorian traditional dance, with the Surik dance style -along with other traditional styles- being very similar in movements to Nyudha. It is also believed that dance styles in turn were also impacted by the martial art.

Society

Empathy and Empaths

Due to their empathic powers, Donorians have a very connected and close-knit society. Donorians are considered and even stereotyped to be very empathetic and great listeners. Donorian society is structured to be very considerate of people’s feelings, whether that is the emotions of a troubled youth or the emotions of a victim of a crime.   A common greeting between Donorians is to touch foreheads for a few moments as this allows them a moment to sense each other's emotions.

Donorian Childrearing

For more info see: Donorian Midwifery & Child Rearing   Due to the very kinship-based culture on Donora, children are seen as very important. Pregnancy and Childbirth are handled by care, and there are professional midwives that are commonly called upon. There are also certain rituals and traditions that are followed during someone's childhood.
