Donorian Toad

Donorian Toads are a type of amphibious creature native to Donora. They spend most of their life on land, despite spending the first period of their life in water.

Appearance

Donorian toads all have chubby round bodies, which they can use to look bigger when in fight or flight, and have four short legs that they use to walk and burrow. They have bumpy skin with a wide variety of coloration but most have neutral-colored skin with camouflage-like patterning.   They come in many variations across the planet, mostly varying in color and size.

Biology

Diet

They like to eat bugs and grubs and have long tongues and claws to catch their prey. They often will dig for grubs and Larvae that they find underground by digging, as well as using their tongs to catch bugs when they land near them.

Behavior

Donorian Toads are mostly nocturnal, staying in their burrows during the day, and coming out at night when bugs come out. They don't live well in extremely wet environments preferring slightly damp environments like the forest floor, where they like to dig their burrows.   They lay eggs in shallow ponds or lakes, many return to the place where they were spawned, and then leave them to hatch into small aquatic living young. The parents then take care of the young, waiting for them to grow large enough to leave the pond and become land-living adults.   In regions where it gets reasonably cold in the winter season, Donorian toads will hibernate in their burrows waking up when it thaws in spring. Even if it gets cold when they are active in the summer, they will stop what they are doing and rest until it is warmer.

Uses

They are prey for lots of creatures that are bigger than them and are used as a food source by Donorians. Many Donorian Dishes call for their meat in their recipes and they are sometimes raised and caught for food.   Some people keep them as pets, often keeping them in terrariums where they can be in a healthy habitat and still be observed.
