Donorian wedding traditions are the historical traditions surrounding courtship and marriage, while they are often still practiced modernly they are also prone to change.
Choosing a Spouse
When it comes to choosing a spouse Donorian tradition tends to give them a lot of freedom, with very few arranged marriages, as feelings are held in high regard.
When courting couples will spend a lot of one-on-one time together, getting to know them and their emotions. It is typical for couples to date for an extended period of time before introducing them to their family, with familial introductions being a sign of a serious relationship.
Engagement and Marriage Ceremony
Donorian engagements often involve the suggestion of marriage, with the ‘engage Kent period’ being the time it takes from commuting to having a wedding until the wedding is executed.
For the week or so before the wedding, the couple will go on a vacation together to spend time together and make sure they are sure about marrying this person.
The wedding ceremonies and celebrations typically last around three days with the official wedding ceremony happening on the second day. Participants -especially the couple and their close family members- will wear formal often traditional Donorian clothing that is often very colorful. The decorations and setup are also very colorful involving lots of banners and garlands for decoration.
The first day is full of preparation and celebration, with the wedding couple being kept separate from each other, often holding separate parties with their individual families.
The second day, when the ceremony happens, is when everyone comes together. The wedding couple will kneel in front of each other press their foreheads together and the officiant will pour water or perfume over the couple's head, sealing their marriage. If the couple does not wish to have the anointment done over their head they may alternatively hold hands and the anointment will be poured over their clapped hands.
After this, the wedding party and their guests will enjoy the reception and celebrate the new marriage. The days after the wedding ceremony are filled with more celebrations and often a feast where everyone gets together to celebrate the newlyweds.
Donorian Wedding Crown
In traditional Donorian weddings, the marrying couple will wear elaborate headbands or crowns referred to as Donorian Wedding crowns. These are used to recognize who is getting married -the couple often wears matching crowns- and are often kept as a keepsake by the couple, sometimes being passed down as heirlooms.
The crowns often resemble flowers, with petal-like rays that radiate around the head creating a halo. They are often quite colorful involving embroidery, beading, and other decoration to make them beautiful and eye-catching. They are traditionally made of stiffened fabric; more modernly, they may be made from metal, shell, or other materials.
Really great and exquisite wedding ideas. I like the fact that you go on a trip before the wedding to ensure that they want to have it. Also, the Donorian Wedding Crown is a great idea. I visualize a noble family with each set of crowns and a picture of their ancestors to show off their heritage.
yeah the pre wedding trip is sort of like an early honeymoon which fulfills the "you don't really know someone until you live with them" type situation. As for the crowns yeah they definitely would be an heirloom especially for elite families,
