Donorian Marshwalker

The Donorian Marshwalker is a tall creature native to the planet Donora.

Appearance

Donorian Marshwalkers are tall strong creatures with four long legs and a long neck and face. They have round bodies with curved hump-like backs and one short tail. They have large wide feet that help them swim as well as walk across muddy land without sinking as much.   They have long faces with large nostrils and mouths and small ears and eyes. They have large tusk-like canines which they use to defend themselves from attackers.   They have wrinkly leathery skin tending to be grey or beige in color.

Biology

Diet

Donorian Marshwalkers are herbivores, feeding mostly on grass and aquatic plants occasionally eating fruits and leaves off of trees and bushes.

Behavior

The Donorian Marshwalkers are semiaquatic, spending most of their time in waterways and oceans only leaving the water at night when the sun is down and they won’t get sunburned.   They live in herds, with a territorial male, called a bull, being in charge of the area the herd lives in and the Marshwalkers that live there. The bulls may fight over territory and females, especially around mating season, with many of these fights being quite bloody often ending in one dying.   Pregnancy lasts for five months, with the mother being the only one involved in raising the offspring. They tend to only give birth to one foal at a time, however, twins are not unheard up but often result in birthing complications. The mother takes care of their offspring until they reach maturity around one year old. The female offspring tend to stay with their mother's herd and the males tend to leave to form their own herd unless they decide to live subservient under the herds Bull.   Donorian Marshwalkers are known for their eerie moaning sounds which many people mistake for an injured person if they do not know the difference.

Uses

Donorian Marshwalkers have been known to be hunted for their meat, but they have never been domesticated due to their very aggressive traits. Aggressive bulls and protective mothers have been known to attack anyone who gets too close.   Their hides were used in historical clothing and objects but had fallen out of fashion some time ago. Their teeth, especially their tusks were also used for carvings and as a symbol of strength.
