War for Venusian Sovereignty
The War for Venusian Sovereignty is the name given to the short conflict and sequence of events leading to the cities of Venus being declared as a soverign nation state.
The Conflict
Prelude
With Earth's gaze turned to Mars and it’s conflicts with Luna for a number of years to follow, Venusian science, technology, and economy grew and started to flourish in it's own light with little attention to the cities being paid by thier neighbors further from the sun. Some citizens saw the similarities in Earth’s interactions with the histories of Earth and Luna. Thoughts of revolution soon followed when Venusians saw Earth put more and more effort into liberating Mars from Lunar rule.
The Engagement
In 2491 seperatists from various Venusian cities banded together and captured the two UNE naval shipyards in orbit around Venus. They declared the stations, ships and equipment as property of the now Sovereign Venus, letting the UNE service members leave and deliver thier message to the Unites Nations of Earth. In response the UNEN pulled forces assisting in the Martian Independence War and set up a blockade around Venus. This led to a year long siege full of stalemate skirmishes. It was Earth that finally capitulated and stood down, fearing mutiny or rebellion in their own ranks after years of prolonged fighting in foreign space.
Outcome
Venusian sovereignty and the creation of United Cities of Venus (the predocessord to the Venus Representative Collective)
