Vola
(a.k.a. Joan)
Vola was part of the WinterWall team Ümlaüt Squad who were investigating a child-trafficking ring in an Eastern Europe warlordom. The warlord, with the help of significant vory involvement, was attempting to use the children to create super soldiers. While rescuing the children from their prison, vola grabbed every child she could and threw them in a van to extract them. The van was destroyed by a vory anti-vehicle rocket. Vola, with her cyber-augmentations, barely survived. The children did not.
She soon after was told that one of the children she grabbed was not a kidnap victim but the son of the warlord. The warlord believes that WinterWall purposely killed his son and becomes hell bent on revenge.
Vola was ordered by her CO to go on leave to deal with what happened to the children. She went to the the UCAS city of Chicago, where she was attacked by a vory hit squad. She killed all but one, Yaromir Sevchenko, who broke her bones and left her for dead. Vola, determined to survive, swam out of the Chicago river with her one working arm. While she healed up with a friendly street doc, she learned that she was wanted for questioning by Lone Star for the murder of those hit-men, so she burned her SIN, made her way to Seattle and went into the shadows.
