Sisceal
Sisceal is a large island about the size of Ireland a few days’ sail off the mainland. For the most part, the climate of the island resembles that of the British Isles—cool, temperate, often rainy. In 1524, the royal family of the island all died, resulting in a vicious civil war as factions fought over succession which has only recently been resolved.
The island nation has three large city states that acted as the major thoroughfares of the place and many small towns and cities across the island. The crown city, Urraim , is by far the largest of the three. The other two cities are Siochain (pronounced “shee-hawn”) and Fomhar . Each has become a single city-state which manages the land surrounding it, and while the overt combat has ended, the three cities continue a cold war against one another, though very little open combat happens. Assassination attempts are relatively frequent against leaders of the three cities, but none of them have been successful in the last few years. However since the ascension of King Archimedes de Amarach to the throne, the war has begun to ebb, and the island is moving toward unity once again.
Geographically speaking, the island is home to a large mountain chain that splits part of the island off from the rest. Siochain is built into one end of the mountain chain while Urraim is blocked off at the other and offers one of the only true ports large enough for trade. While there are small coastal fishing villages scattered about the island, none of them have ports large enough to accommodate the larger trading vessels.
Siochain is a rather large island (similar in size to Ireland). It has a mountain chain splitting the middle of it, more or less, and the climate is cool and often rainy. The region around Fomhar is much flatter than other areas of the island and has the majority of the arable land, meaning they are the biggest producer of grain in the area.
The rest of the island is mostly forested, though areas around the cities have been cleared to allow for both tactical visibility as well as the production of food where possible.
The island's wildlife are about what one would expect for the temperate areas, though there are places in the wilder parts of the island where you will see faerie creatures in addition to the usual wolves or deer. It's this odd mix that makes travel a little more treacherous than you might find in other locations in the world. Of course, if you avoid the fae creatures, the place is safe enough.
The trees and plants are more or less average for the temperate area they live in. Oaks, maples, birches, ash, walnut and so on comprise the many forests on the island.
