Gilthraven Hall

Heathlune itself is a smaller island with an unfriendly spire of rock jutting from the center. Those crossing by boat are brought to a small dock with a path that leads up to the main road to the college. Everyone arriving (whether by boat or across the moonbridge) is vetted by the guards, though the guards only make themselves known if they have need to talk to someone. Nothing evil is permitted on the island with the rare exception of certain artifacts being brought to the masters for destruction or study. And those require special dispensation.   Inside the perimeter of Gilthraven Hall, there is a fair amount of open land, across which animals roam. Animals that are smart enough to avoid the practice fields which are dotted with burned earth or various other evidences of accidents that have taken place there. Students can be seen working on various magics out there at most hours of the day.   Students of Gilthraven Hall are much similar to the parent island—very few races beyond the elves, and those who are not of pure elven heritage are either half-breeds or the rare member of another race who shows unusually potent magical talent. The fae traffic in and out of the university on occasion, though they are not excessively common. Visitors, however, are permitted to explore the college so long as they abide by the rules of conduct. That said, the areas they are not allowed into are hidden well enough that the school doesn’t worry overmuch about people ending up places they shouldn’t be.   Admission to the school is tightly controlled, and those who are not of “good” alignments (or the odd neutral) are not permitted. Evil individuals who want to learn magic are turned away with extreme prejudice, and there are several suspiciously life-like statues in the museum that attest to the results of such a decision in the past.   Food at Gilthraven Hall is pescetarian, for the most part, since the animals on the island are considered friends of the residents. While they are not pets, most of the local beasts are fed and treated affectionately by students, which has made them more or less tame. Even the predators are more likely to amble over and ask if you have food than they are to take a bite out of you.   Each of the schools of magic is headed by a provost whom oversees the professor beneath them. They are beholden to the Pengolodh, a reclusive elven wizard of venerable age and incredible skill. He rarely grants audiences, and most in the school know him only by reputation. The Eight Provosts have met the Pengolodh, but he doesn’t often weigh in on school affairs.   The Eight Provosts are:
  • Abjuration: Provost Amyntas
  • Conjuration: Provost Arctos
  • Divination: Provost Cassandra Siopilos
  • Enchantment: Provost San Dell
  • Illusion: Provost Umbra Ars
  • Necromancy: Provost Oppen Walken
  • Transmutation: Provost Athru
  • Holy Magics: The Reverend Mother Holui
Other individuals known to the party include:
  • Master Anapraxis (Ferron’s teacher)
  • The Librarian: Mistress Roses (Unclear if this is her name or a rank of some kind.)
  • Vicili (a student of divination)
  • Master Felor—a master of faerie lore and history

Purpose / Function

To provide education in the arcane arts.

Architecture

Beautiful elven architecture augmented by magical touches (such as ceilings displaying the sky). The great hall has been enchanted to look like a forest complete with animals who wander through from time to time, visiting students while they study.
