Ascendants
The Ascendants, sometimes called the New Gods, represent the culmination of Inevitability and Change's plan to defeat Ambition and its allies. With the Old Gods shattered, their power was left directionlesss with no will to guide it. Much like how Change's power can be tapped by mortals, so too can the powers of the other shattered Old Gods. While most people can tap into many of these sources of power, a select few can only touch two or three. These people are the ascendants, unable to access the full spectrum of power, but able to control vast amounts of the powers they can touch.
These deities and demigods, the combination of powers and mortal ascendants, are broadly divided into two categories, depending on whether they access two or three divine powers. At any given time, there are 91 ascendants who wield just two powers, and they are the most powerful of the deities, called New Gods. There are many more who access three or even four, but they are much less powerful, and in generally excluded from any lists of deties, despite techincally being ascendants themselves.
It is very rare for people, even clerics, to follow only a single ascendant. Instead, temples are often dedicated to group of ascendants with overlapping domains. Lots of temples even venerate triple and quadruple ascendants in this way.
The New Gods are generally organized into seven pantheons:
