Yaclarta

Demographics

Many different species live in the town of Yclarta, but there is a bigger population of Halflings/Hin or gnomes. Their nimble fingers seemed born to make pottery and as such they make up some of the wealthiest citizens in town. Farmers are the second highest profession in Yclart with pottery being the first. There is only one Blacksmith in the town to repair the few metal items in the town. Taverns, inns, leather and woodworking are some of the other professions in the town. Other species in the town are elves, orcs, half-elves, and half orcs. Dwarves are not as abundant, but there are a few hundred in the city. The rarest of all to see are Goliaths as their wandering nature means they are usually just passing through the town.

Government

Officially the town of Yclarta is run by a Mayor who is elected every six years. They are aided by a council consisting of the four major guilds. The potters guild, the farmers guild, the herbalist guild, and the blacksmith guild. To be on the council your organization must have at least one member, be able to pay the yearly fee of 50 gold, and contribute a significant improvement to the town. What is considered a significant improvement is decided upon by the citizens. Although it is said that for the right price the vote may be changed in your favor. The head of each guild sits on the council and attends council meetings once a month.
Tax collectors (also known by some town folk as fortune stealers) come by each business/organization or home towards the end of the year to collectors. Unofficially one might be able to convince the tax collectors to "give them a discount" by "gifting" them a little extra.
