Torches in Twilight Session 26, the last assassination, for now
General Summary
After resting and recuperating from offing Madrona, the party progressed to Blue River City. When nearing the city, Zajac disguised himself as an ambitious bloodline holder (with some illusory dragon eyes) and Brigid pretended to be his betrothed.
They bribed and conned their way to get the Tailor's Guild to arrange a meeting with Baron Cadfael ap Gorisonad. They met in a fancy guild hall where Zajac and Brigid's subterfuge didn't last very long, but it really didn't matter since the target was in striking distance.
The opposition besides Caedfael was a Fang Warrior, two Talon Warriors and six men at arms.
They had a short but bloody fight where Kormatin and company slew Caedfael but everyone else walked away more or less unscathed.
Ragani basically kept the men at arms and to a lesser extant the Talon Warriors at bay with spirit lions and occasionally used her Plant wand on the Fang Warrior while Kormatin slowly nickeled and dimed the Fang Warrior who was more of an abjurer than a fighter. Zajac, Brigid, and Bendek bumrushed Caedfael with a minor assist from Ragani.
Despite abjuration spells and potion drinking, Caedfael did not last long.
The Fang Warrior eventually yielded but not until destroying the Bag of Holding he was carrying and the rest Caefael's entourage withdrew as Kormatin's company went invisible.
Kormatin and company escaped without being successfully pursued than bribed their way out of the city, exited Swynfaredian into the Merchant Principality of Centrum.
Kormatin touched base with the local Masks, and asked them to keep an eye out for the missing Tester advisor of the late King Mateo and Lady Felicja Wiern who Kormatin specualted were working together and to a keep an eye for one of Kormatin's half-sisters he guessed might be in the Borderlands.
Kormatin and company swung by to visit Baron Fyodor Deorac IV, deliberately avoided the Village of Satyrs and made it to King's Lake where they learned the minor bit of news that Rohdri ap Gruffyl had somewhat allied himself to House Gareth in the factional division in Swynfaredia.
