Delas the Diplomat Character in Scarterra | World Anvil

Delas the Diplomat

Delas is credited with being the greatest advocate of gnomish welfare that Scarterra has ever seen and a gifted diplomat who helped gnomes and non-gnomes alike. Well over a thousand years after his death, he is remains the namesake for the famed Order of Delas.   Delas the Diplomat was and is a legendary figure in the hearts and minds of most gnomes though he remains a mysterious figure. Written records in the Red Era were rare and written records about gnomes in the Red Era are rarer still.   There are no surviving portraits of Delas or verified historical records recording what he looked like. No one is sure when or where he was born or when and where he died.   Since Delas has done so many great deeds, many historians have speculated that more than one gnome bore the name Delas. Perhaps the name was passed from father to son or mentor to apprentice.

Mental characteristics

Accomplishments & Achievements

Delas is credited with persuading many human rulers outlawing the enslavement of gnomes all throughout Scarterra, but especially in West Colassia   He is credited with smoothing relations between the dwarves and elves of West Colassia.   Delas is credited with helping elevate gnomes in general into their own sort of scholarly subclass, especially in Umera.   Though not a Keeper himself, Delas is credited with helping remove prejudice based obstacles that hindered the advancement of gnome priests and priestesses in the heirarchy of the Keepers.

Failures & Embarrassments

Delas is said to have tried and failed to integrate goblins with humans and gnomes and narrowly escaped with his life. A lot of humans and goblins died in the fallout. Gnomes use this story as an allegory that even great people can fail spectacularly.   Some say Delas tried and failed to integrate kobolds and humans but this attempt merely fail, it did nto fail catastrophically with much bloodshed.
