Rogue’s Court Organization in Scalespiral | World Anvil

Rogue’s Court

The Rogue Court is the loose association of ne’er-do-wells that forms around each Rogue King.  Functioning as the Thieves Guild and the Assassin’s Guild for Scalespiral, the Court also provides refuge, mentorship, and solidarity for a variety of other less-than-legal occupations.  The term Rogue’s Court may also apply specifically to the close circle of advisors and seconds that the Rogue King selects, although many people will specify the Rogue King’s Court instead of the Rogue King when they are referring to this group, which makes up the primary leadership of the overall Rogue’s Court.

Structure

The Rogue King’s court is loosely formed around the Rogue King, and answers only to him. Each Rogue King sets up their court to reflect their own personality and intentions; the current Court maintains major positions for a representative of each of the major ne’er-do-well occupations.  This allows each occupation to bring their complaints and concerns to the Rogue King.  In addition to the designated members of each occupation, the current Rogue King’s court also has several five-member cells in the other large cities of the Southern Continent, each of which act as the Rogue King’s deputies in those cities, extending his range of influence and helping him understand the needs of the people in those cities.

Culture

The Rogue’s Court is very much an organization that prides itself on a code of honor; they never steal from those with less than them, and pitch in to take care of the community.  Nevertheless, the Rogue’s Court is still an association of criminals, and worse - a court, and so a certain degree of political maneuvering and social backstabbing is expected. Most of the backstabbing remains metaphorical, a surprise from an organization where a significant number of members literally make their livings carrying out assassinations.
