Eda Oweland

Councilor Elect (a.k.a. Mother Oweland, Queen of the Marsh)

Overview

A true Salt, Eda was born and raised in The Marsh. She can trace her lineage all the way back to two of the original four adventurers that settled Crabber's Cove.

Personality

Eda is gruff, pragmatic, community driven, touchy about Founders, and suspicious of anyone new. Though only slightly slowed by her age, she proudly carries herself with the strength of someone who has spent much of their life outdoors doing hard work. She sticks up for her people, swears like a sailor when angry, and flattery only worsens her opinion of someone.

Beliefs

First to volunteer to help anyone in town, Eda loves Saltmarsh and its inhabitants, and while wary of outsiders, she's fiercely loyal and trusting of those who have proven themselves to her.

Displeased with the royal attention as of late, she prefers to be in the thick it so that she doesn't miss a beat or an opportunity to do what she can to push back. Tensions are especially high between her and Manistred Copperlocks, as Eda is dismissve of the dwarven mining operation and highly doubts its success.

Endeavors

Eda has been elected to the council three times, is the reigning matriarch of her extended family, and personally owns three large fishing boats. She is particularly interested in expanding the town's fishing industry with the building of more dock space. In Eda's eyes, investing in the status quo is what Saltmarsh needs.

Her residence, Oweland House, is a vast, odd, nearly mazelike menagerie of additions and expansions haphazardly put together to accommodate the extended Oweland family's large size. Frequently the space also houses those in need, as Eda doesn't hesitate to provide lodging or sustenance until the adrift can get back on their feet.
