Cult of Procan

The Cult of Procan is barely an organization. Its faith is carried by behavior rather than an organized religion. The function of this worship is not to create structure, but to embrace the way things are upon the seas--their bounty and their danger.

Those who truly dedicate themselves to His worship rarely venture very far inland, staying close to salt waters or on them.

Procan offers his clerics access to the Tempest domain, but clerics and priests are not the only worshippers Procan gives His power to, as many warlocks call Procan their patron as well.

Tenets of Faith

Protean and mercurial, the oceans are the ultimate expression of life as they are what we make of them and they of us. The seas, their skies, and all their inhabitants are Procan's domain for He is the embodiment of their chaos and their abundance.

The world's origins are aquatic and fecund, thus the true state of existence is found on and in the salt waters of Oerik.

Through this natural state, Procan shows his faithful how to live: with power, desire, acceptance, and blind, raw change. Life above and below the waves is the ultimate source of all meaning. One must make their way and be made by the way.

The freedom of the waves is to be respected and embraced. You must take, you must give, you must fight, and you must be at the mercy of His tempestuous will.

To be as unbound as the primal waters is to be on the vortex's vital path to transformation and destruction. Chaos is balance. Balance is chaos.

Worship

Procan's worship is a matter of action and conduct more than any practice or place. There is one essential rite put forth by priests and clerics of the capricious and deeply carnal diety: At the start of any oceanic or seafaring voyage sacrifices in the form of fine food, potent alcohol, or valuable treasure must be cast overboard into the deep.

The Mariner's Code, a prayer to Procan recited during this ritual, is not an official cult liturgy but one communally codified over thousands of years of usage.

"Give back of your best to the waters as you take of theirs! The waves are upon us and we are upon them! Our voyages are made in one vessel! All hands on deck! What is lost He takes!"
