Xoshoyjan (clo-SHOI-yan)
The Emirate of Xoshoyjan (ǃoʊ,ʃɔɪ'jæn) is the oldest continuous political entity in the world. Scholars and clerics disagree if Xoshoyjan or Chuyqua is the true original home of the many humanoid races in the world but most are in agreement that life began on the continent of Oromo.
The Emirate is almost entirely located within the city of Abderaliana. The rest of the country is a dangerously sparse desert of hard volcanic soil. The area around Abderaliana is cooled by the southern ocean and a spring exiting right next to a natural harbor. Small nomadic tribes travel the northern deserts and many summer in the underground city of Ashkhaiq in the east. It is bordered by the Ruwenzori Mountains and Chuyqua to the west.
The Zafrani dynasty has ruled Xoshoyjan and Abderaliana for at least twenty thousand years, and if legend is to believed, were the first princes established by the dragons in ages long past. Emir Boutaje Zafrani is the current prince and has ruled happily for fifty years.
Structure
Xoshoyjan is a hereditary monarchy led by the oldest son of the Zafrani family, or their next closest male relative. Xoshoyjan is only nation in the world with a strictly one-gender hereditary system. In all other political positions and in society writ large gender and sexuality is irrelevant. This peculiar system has led to many an ineffective Emir who deferred to his wife. These women are referred to as the Emiras and are revered by the populace, especially other female politicians. Through this give-and-take of power, polygamy, and a tradition of strong-handedness when it comes to choosing a successor, the Zafrani dynasty has been able to hold power in Xoshoyjan for its entire recorded existence.
The Emir is advised by a Council of Ministers whom he appoints and who handle day-to-day matters. These include the Minister of the City, the Minister of War, and the Minister of the Exchequer. Each heads a department who employs dozens to hundreds of workers.
Culture
Xoshoyjan has an almost religious reverence for their Emirs. Spouses of Emirs, (Emira/h/e) who were a major power behind the throne are revered as popular saints. They are considered to be a continuing line to the great dragons who created the Dragonborn race and gave the principality to the Zafrani family to care for.
Assets
Xoshoyjan's assets consist of trade, history, and art. They are a major port between The Ostines, and Chuyqua, and the southern ports of Promaria and Gashain. As the oldest continuous entity in the world there is a large tourist trade to its museums. Many dragonborn in other nations consider it a rite of passage to travel to Abderaliana and visit the dragon shrines there. Finally, Xoshoyjan textiles are prized around the world for their complexity and color. The dark red soil throughout the country make for a fantastic dye for fine goat fibers.
History
Official Xoshoyjan history tells of the ancient dragon gods creating the first members of the Dragonborn race out of their own eggs and the roiling lava of a newly birthed continent. These fiery beings were quenched in the arctic waters of the south and a temperate spring and harbor were created from the exchange. The dragon gods then gave over the land to their favorite family, the Zafrani, and told them to lead and guard it and let it flourish forever.

Demography and Population
Xoshoyjan is the birthplace of Dragonborns and as such has a majority Dragonborn population. In 1196 it is home to around 2% of the global population, or around 9 million humanoids. As a major port city Abderraliana has a cosmopolitan demographic and is welcoming to all races but the vast majority is Draconic. The vast majority of Xoshoyjans live in Abderraliana, making it the most densely populated area in all of Salea.
Foreign Relations
Xoshoyjan is officially at peace with every nation on Salea. After hosting the The Council of Abderaliana (1181a) it has positioned itself as a nation above the petty squabbles of its neighbors. Remaining officially neutral during the war also allowed Xoshoyjan to retain much of its population and wealth further cementing its primacy on the world stage.
Historically its closest relationships have been with Chuyqua and The Federated States of the Allied Islands due to their proximity. Chuyqua and Xoshoyjan have long had a friendly argument over which of their countries is the oldest and no bilateral meeting or archeological conference can pass without traded japes about each nation's claims to that title.

Xoshoyjan conduct trade in the standardized Gold Piece currency used by the rest of the world. In a bid of individualism their coins are exclusively square and minted with the faces of prominent Emir and Emiras of the past, but each coin retains the weight and value of other nations currency.
