Snow Dwarf

The Snow Dwarves are the group of dwarves whose ancestors chose to stay in the Sabrelands even after the Winter Witches took control of the area during the Age of Long Ago.

Naming Traditions

Family names

Snow dwarves value their lineage and can trace their ancestry back to a single name - usually the name of an ancestor who completed a significant feat. Each descendent's name is adapted from this originator name, with females usually adding "a" or "ina" to the end of the name and males adding "ov" or "ich".   Particularly impressive or disruptive contributions to society will result in a snow dwarf taking a new name (or having it bestowed upon them), and a new lineage will begin. Sometimes snow dwarves change their name when they get married to match their spouce's name - particularly if the spouce's family line is more prestigious.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Snow Dwarves have always valued their strong endurance and hardiness, but since the Winter Witches seized control of the Sabrelands, physical displays of fortitude have become an obsessive cultural identity. Whether they are revelling in the drinking of the highly-alcoholic Icecap Ale, or pushing themselves to perform dangerous feats in the Igra, Snow Dwarves can be counted on to boast of their failures just as much as their successes.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Snow dwarves of all genders cultivate physically sturdy and muscular bodies and many tattoo their arms with a metallic ink made out of brass. Snow dwarves (particularly the males) often wear woven headbands through their hair, although some cover their head fully, in the more general fashion of the Sabrelands.
