Prosea (Pro-sea-ah)
Structure
Culture
Prosea has a strong affinity to nature and the natural world. They are leading innovators in biotechnology and environmental technology. There is also a strong order of elemental mages from Prosea's leading academic institution, Kirerth, Instutite of the Arcane.
Prosea has a long elvish history which led to a strong elvish culture within its customs, architecture, and beliefs.
As a coastal province, seafaring is a large source of Prosean income. Many of Prosea's largest settlements reside on the sealine, and there is a strong intersection between the sea and technology. This is, however, a source of great conflict both within Prosea and between Prosea and it's neighbours, who covet the advantages of maritime supremacy.
History
Prosean history is innately linked to their elvish roots. Whilst it's neighbours moved away from elvish tradition, Prosea maintained this strong connection. This has led to long-standing conflict with its neighbours, and even a weakened position as they didn't go through the same struggles as the other provinces. However, Proseans often have deeper connections to their homeland and culture because of this unbroken link to the past.
Accepted histories in Ovolyn state that Prosean elves first travelled and settled in Ovaleon, and maintained hegemony over the lands despite the human and dwarvish settlers that joined them in this land. However, many Prosean historical scholars argue that, instead, it was the elves that were pushed out of their settlements and who had to accept the new rule of others. However, this narrative remains pervasive.
Disbandment
In 964 EP, Prosea was invaded by the military forces of Ovolyn following a decade-long internal political struggle. The rule of Fayra Randrendrar was seemingly very unpopular to some of the local power bases, and her election to the position of High Elder caused grating tensions within the Order of Elders.
After the mismanagement of industrial affairs caused a catastrophic explosion in one of the Prosean factories, Ovolyn turned their eyes towards the Prosean political scene. Seeing the breakdown of the Order of Elders, and knowing the deadly impact of political factionalism, Ovolyn sent military troops into Prosea to occupy the land for a settlement to be reached.
As of 965 EP, no such agreement has been reached and so a proxy government of Ovolysh officials stands in charge of Prosean affairs for the forseeable future.
Demography and Population
Prosea has the highest elvish population among all of the provinces of Roralion. However, other species such as humans, halflings, fey, centaur, genasi etc. also reside within Prosea.
Along Prosea's coasts, higher populations of water-based species such as triton, merfolk, and tortle reside.
Military
Religion
Prosea follows the ancient elvish religion, Tereshi. Most of its elvish inhabitants adhere to this religion.
However, religious freedom is a staple of Prosean internal diplomacy, and thus all Prosean citizens are free to follow whichever belief they choose.
Foreign Relations
Agriculture & Industry
Prosean industrial power is clearest in a sea-faring context. In naval affairs, shipmaking, shipping, and other coastal industries, Prosea are the leading figures.
Biotechnology and environmental technology are also key focuses for economic development.
