The Lock

The Lock is far more than a bridge, and far more than a seal. The Lock is the center of an ongoing war between two of the most populated and militaristic districts of the entire apocalypse. The Renies have sat upon their golden gate for years, looking to protect their turf and their position of power over Seaway, while the forces of North Web have been looking to gain control of it to free the bay of the murky waters and to deal a definitive blow against Irene.

If the Lock falls, then so does C-Breeze. If C-Breeze falls, then so does the whole district. If the whole district falls, then so does Irene. That's why the Lock must fall.

Purpose / Function

The Lock is intended to act primarily as a means of transportation between North Web and Irene's Decoy, as well as to control the flow of water in and out of the bay between the two districts. It has been active for quite some time and has caused the bay's water to become murky and dangerous from constant contamination, but has been a popular point of contention for many years in the apocalypse between the two districts vying for control of it.

Alterations

The main alterations that have been made are more to fortify the perimeter and the rails of the bridge to keep people from crossing or approaching the controls, as well as reinforced blocking mechanisms to seal the bay in and out while the bridge is locked. Around the bridge, there are a series of towers, fences, barriers, and other fortifications built to keep away any invaders from Seaway.

Architecture

The bridge itself is an unusual swing bridge that rotates around a vertical axis on a single hinge across the western side of the bay. The bridge itself is otherwise wide, flat, simple, and exposed like the roads leading up to it.

History

The Lock has been fought over between the two neighboring districts for years now, starting ever since the southern bridge between them was destroyed. Acting as the only effective point of transit between the districts, as well as controlling the state of the water in the bay south of it, the Renies and the Seaway forces have been at each other's throats trying to take hold of it, though it currently remains under the control of C-Breeze.
