Meat Market, The
Imagine for me, if you will, a place that is the fortress of an entire way of life. Of a military, food supply, and living space. All ruled under the thumb of a militarized dictatorship.
In a few words, that is what the Meat Market is.
Though its name is not exactly what one would expect out of a military outpost, the name is meant for one of two things. The first is that there is such a condensed amount of population here, there are times that it smells like dankness and heavy amounts of body odor. The other way is that it is where "pigs go to slaughter". Captured enemies, creatures, and whatever else comes through those gates in rarely come out if they aren't from West Roc. And, if they are from West Roc, going in there only meant finding the fate that all others did in the Inner Loop.
Demographics
The occupants of the Meat Market are a mix of all walks of life that are denoted by a class system. As the hub of The Roc, there had to be some kind of structure in order for shit not to go sideways. In the Meat Market itself, there is a large population of military (if you could call it that) leaders.
Under their heel are any subordinates and prisoners that are under the strict and constant eye. Since rank changes all the time, those who break out but kill plenty are able to return their rank or even get higher up. This kind of change only works for subordinates. Prisoners from the east side of The Roc are usually tortured until they are of no further use and then thrown into the Inner Loop where their fate is up to themselves.
Government
The militarized dictatorship of West Roc. It is run by a group joint chiefs, people who have lived past the age of 40, are the people who rule over the west. These chiefs reside here in The Meat Market.
Defences
The old gate that used to be there was blasted down during the war. Scraps were found to rebuild it and the walls have been restructured to keep out invaders or those will ill intention. Though the leaders would never admit it, most of it is meant to keep out any strange...things found in the Inner Loop. The biggest fear is that something far greater will come swimming out of that cesspool and get past all their defences, so they are constantly finding ways to improve and continue growth.
Industry & Trade
Very little trade with those outside of their hold, but there's just enough that keeps their resources plentiful. Places they raid are usually the most "trade" they are going to find.
Infrastructure
It is structured according to the classist system found throughout West Roc. Many of the poor live outside of the main gates in whatever poor hovels they can find for themselves. Anyone who lives inside is usually military or someone who is going to be tried, killed, or something far worse.
There isn't any kind of business going on here other than the organized leadership. There is a courtyard of sorts and very little trade, but nothing that would be accessible to those who aren't on good terms or regulated to be inside.
Assets
Since this is a hub of militarization, there is plenty of guns, resources, and even a few vehicles. These could be up for grabs...if you can get through the defences. These are kept under lock, key, and anvil. Only those approved to use them can, and every night these resources are recounted for the next day.
Guilds and Factions
The militarized dictatorship of Western Roc.
History
At one time, The Meat Market was a place of thriving trade and good will.
Now...it's anything but.
A few survivors found this place in relatively good condition and found resources that had been trapped by rubble since the fall of everything. Together they built up the rubble and found other with potential to help them. Together, they built a small outpost. They only found a few signs that could have given any indication of what it was:
The Meat...Market?
Sounded intimidating enough.
As time went on, the culture of the Roc formed what they would become: an outpost. A stronghold. A frontier for those fighting. Those original band of leaders soon took control over the area and any survivors there in hopes of creating some kind of system like they had heard about before. The kind with structure and order. And, most importantly, power. With power, they hoped to spread their control over the rest of the Roc, bust some resisted, thus causing a divide in the unstructured barriers in their view.
Today, the leaders make all decisions, but are getting older every minute. Those in their army ranks take bets in quiet as to when they will fall, but only time will tell.
Geography
The council all live in a large brick building on the inside of the gate. Few know what lies inside other than their Hall of Judgement where the damned are sentenced to whatever unfortunate fates they have ahead. Resources such as food and weaponry are also seen going in and out of this building, but their direct location is unknown to those other than the Chiefs.
Any military live in barracks formed from old building pieces, tarps, and sheets of torn metal. There is little to stop the elements from impacting them, but the theory is that if you can survive the brutality of the cold, then you are fit to be in the state of power that you are in. Higher military officials don't have to deal with this, however, and have more insulated barracks away from the rest of the squabble.
In the middle of it all is a courtyard that is normally used for training, public executions, and occasional trade with merchants.
