Al Azira Ilaya

Al Azira Ilaya (pl. Al Azira Ilura), "The Blue Sign" in Arventiri, is a symbol worn by Emhirists as a sign of their true allegiances. It is a small square of azure silk, roughly eight inches on a side. The edges are decorated with gold scrollwork embroidery, while the center is occupied by a large, stylized and ornate sun embroidered with the same gold thread. It is typically worn by Emhirists at the waist, in a manner intentionally reminiscent of the yellow silk braids worn by Haruses, though it is not uncommon to see the sign worn elsewhere on the body.   Although originally intended as a secret sign known only to those who share the same beliefs, al azira ilaya is easily recognizable in regions with a large Emhirist presence due to their relative ubiquity. In the southeast of the Pāll-tanír, even in communities that are more closely aligned with the Dominion's core beliefs and values, one would be hard-pressed to go a day without spotting the blue sign.

Manufacturing process

A blue silk square embroidered in the same fashion as Al Azira Ilura does not qualify as one of the Al Azira Ilura unless the silk and thread were obtained from a human-owned business and the seamstress that makes it is human.

Significance

The bright azure color of the silk used in al azira ilura mimics the sky, signifying that to other races, mankind is like the sky, above them and eternally out of reach. The use of gold thread in the embroidery represents the wealth, power, and privilege of humanity. The motif of the sun represents humanity's dominion over the Pāll-tanír, mankind's right to lay claim to everything that the light sheds light upon, and the soaring heights of achievement that humanity will achieve in the future if it is not held back by other, inferior races. Finally, the customary placement of the sign, intentionally mimicking the placement of haruses' yellow braids, indicates the belief of emhirists that humanity is the true and rightful authority in the Pāll-tanír, not the Dominion.
