The Empire of Altrenea
The Empire of Altrenea is made up of five provinces: Northwind, Iron Peaks, The Red Meadows (by its residents, termed Olinter), Riversward, and The Stone Coast.
It is ruled by a regent king appointed by the three representative heads of state from each province.
The empire was formed from three smaller kingdoms, the Kingdom of Northwind (now divided into the provinces of Northwind and the Iron Peaks), the Kingdom of Olinter (now divided into the provinces of Riversward and the Red Meadows) and the Kingdom of Breakwave (now the province of the Stone Coast).
The residents of the Red Meadows region objected to the union, but as their land was in the center of the uniting kingdoms, and technically subject to the head of state located in what became Riversward, they had little choice aside from open rebellion. They chose to submit to the regent rule, but continue to be less than civil with the Altrenean government. Tax collections in this region are fraught, and many minor rebellions, comprised of small bands of raiding outlaws, have occurred. The residents of this region still term it Olinter and call themselves Olinteans.
