Personal history
Levi was raised in Philadelphia. His father operated a business that involved both perfectly legal merchant trading and smuggling. He brought his sons into the business at an early age and prepared them to be the fourth generation of Finley traders. When he was 20, Levi's father sent him to Boston to establish himself there, arranging for him to work with a business associate to learn how to be successful in Boston. Through the help of his father and the business associate, Levi was able to establish himself and, when the American Revolution began, made Boston the home port for the Scot privateer. However, much of the credit in his success in Boston goes to his friend and partner, Jasper Goodman, and Levi is sure to make this clear when he can.

Levi's father ensured Levi had the best education possible, which he considered to be through hands-on experience. None of Levi's education was formal but done through tutors and family associates.

Mental Trauma
Despite willingly following in his father's footsteps in the business of smuggling, Levi still has many moral disagreements with his father and being forced to return to Philadelphia for his safety during the Siege of Boston caused him much anguish to the point where he was ill for some time. He does not have many fond memories of growing up in his father's household.

Levi is a firm believer in equality between sexes and races. He is deeply opposed to slavery and believes women should have more freedoms.

Throughout his childhood, Levi was always striving to succeed so he could leave his father's home. He has always wanted to be free of his father's immediate control and to make decisions for himself.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Despite his apparent success in business, Levi has never truly had a mind for it and only constant help from Jasper Goodman, who has always been far more skilled than Levi, allowed him to not completely fail at everything he attempted. He is, however, skilled at developing ideas for new areas of business, which he always talks over with Jasper before pursuing.
