The Scot

Previously known as the HMS Spar, the Scot is a British Royal Navy frigate borrowed by Captain Miles Dunn for use as a privateer.   This is a fictional ship loosely based off a couple French frigates, all of the same name.

Propulsion

The Scot is a fully-rigged ship, meaning it has three masts and propels itself through the use of wind and sails.

Weapons & Armament

The Scot's main armament is made of 26 18-pound guns and 6 8-pound guns (the weight that of the ball the guns fire). It also carries numerous pistols, muskets, and swords used by the crew.

Armor and defense

The most notable defensive item on the Scot is the netting used to prevent boarding by enemy crews during combat. Pikes are also provided for the use of the crew to repel boarders.

Communication Tools & Systems

Like most ships of the period, the Scot communicates through the use of flags on its masts, firing its guns, and through the voice of crew members when other ships are close enough. These methods are used to communicate to other ships the Scot encounters, as the Scot rarely becomes involved in multi-ship operations. Communications with captured prize vessels when en route to an American port are made by firing a gun if the prize is too far away, in order to bring it closer or for a member of the crew to bring a small boat over from the prize in order to communicate.
