Surcount Aarto of Ingus

Surcount Aarto Perjalani

Aarto Perjalani is most renowned for his involvement in the Battle of the Baneswood during the  Doric-Aijian War. Before the war, Aarto was Marshal of the Surcounty of Anttula as an unlanded vassal to Grand Duke Arttu I. Aarto was not among the commander whom the Grand Duke led into the war against Aijia, instead, he continued to administrate the Surcounty of Anttula, this was until the tide of the war began to turn. When the Aijian forces began to push the Doric forces back across the Tora River, the Eastern Surcounties of Ashcastle and Anttula came under attack. While the battle was almost futile, being without any central leadership and greatly outnumbered due to the majority of manpower having been sent to the Grand Duke's army, only larger settlements were able to hold out and militias able to protect the land from the Aijian forces. Aarto, in his capacity as marshal, was in a tricky position. With limited manpower, he would need to mount a defence, by the time he had sufficient soldiers under his command, Ashcastle had already fallen, only Ilpamett held out north of Anttula. Aarto would organise a campaign of guerrilla warfare against the invading army, largely focusing on dwindling their numbers before engaging in open combat, this would be so successful that he would eventually push back the Aijian forces as far as Sjolund before the Treaty of Pilkala was signed.
