Listman

The Listmen is the lowest rank that can be held within the Doric Military Structure outside that of the peasant militia pressed into service. The Listmen derives its name from the Succession of the Suns War in which the great noble houses of Ilkitala and Maijalan fought over the Doric throne. As this de-facto civil war often saw allegiances split down as far as between family members, it became essential to keep lists of those loyal to each faction so one could tell friend from foe.
The Listmen can be a highly versatile role. Some who hold the role are militia in all but name, only being summoned when necessary and only ever paid in such circumstances. Others function more like career soldiers, trained at garrisons and paid a salary by their lord commander.
