The Colleges of Magical Arts

The birthplace and core of the city of Magnus. It was here that the headmasters of the eight colleges at the time made the founding decision to build a center for studying, learning, and progressing in the arts of magic. That center was built along the coastline of Álainn Bay.   Each of the headmasters worked together to construct the buildings that would be the base for what currently stands today. But while they worked together, they took to designing their domains to the use and necessity of their particular fields. When the headmasters of these colleges were done with their domains, they began to make it a place to live. Bringing in people to build and populate the area in what would one day become Magnus.   Time progressed and the village turned into a town and from a town into a city. As it expanded so did its fame for being the place to learn magic. All walks of life came to the learn within the halls of the colleges.

Nunmerth, College of Abjuration

("Nun-merth") Current Headmaster: Jadis Guildenrose

Nunmerth has an outstanding history of students who graduate and go on to be military advisors and defense engineers. Helping to establish defenses for anything from vaults to castles. Many stretch their legs as independent contractors, but there are many others who take up employment with various peacekeeping and defense groups. Such as the Head Chief of Corrections, leader of the RAC is a graduate. In these halls students are taught all aspects of magical defense and imbuement, which is why it is not uncommon to see RAC recruits given access to these classes. Students in their introductory years are required to take several core classes at Nunmerth. Classes from both Nunmerth and Tremora often use one another's learning spaces.

Additionally, Nunmerth works closely with the Royal Academy of Correction as well as the Potenza Lex units to provide additional training and job opportunities for students.

Wamorthis, College of Conjuration

("Wuh-mor-this") Current Headmaster: Gelden Pennywhistle

Wamorthis's is a college dedicated to the exploration of distant lands and realities. Conjuration is primarily the school of magic that surrounds the conjuration of items and creatures from the weave of magic or from other realms of existence. Additionally, conjuration is the school of teleportation and magical transportation style magics as well as home of the Bardic focus of Creation. It is said that the upper classmen and graduates of Wamorthis are some of the worldliest individuals due to their experience abroad both on the material plane and beyond. As Graduates from Wamorthis can take on many vocations from entertainment to grant led studies on the planes, trying to understand the cosmos.

Vouseth, College of Divination

("Voh-Seth") Current Headmaster: Gwen Ellis

Vouseth teaches their students to listen to the guidance of the world and in return it will lead you down the right path. Mostly comprised of Clerics and astrologers who do their best to interpret those signs be them divine or cosmic. The halls of Vouseth are covered with astrological signs and star charts. At its pinnacle the tower of Vouseth is a large open space roof with a perfectly clear view of the sky. A magic dome can be placed over the opening to prevent unfortunate weather to effect those who still wanted to be among the open skies. Graduates of Vouseth often take up residence in churches or in courts. Using what divining powers, they have learned to help guide. Though there are some who use these tools for less altruistic purposes. It should be said it is not uncommon for you to find a diviner in almost all facets of society.

Vouseth is the home of the only church on campus and it is an All-Faith church.

Gilston, College of Enchantment

("Gils-ton") Current Headmaster: Theodora Green

The College of Enchantment is known for producing many bards and magic users who end up in politics. Not only is the magic taught here meant to help manipulate minds and hearts, but it also teaches all of the decorum of the courts and its political mechanisms that work in the foreground and background. The graduates of this school walk away with skills suitable for being king and court advisors both in the magical, but the political as well. They are aware of the game and how it's played. It's also a college many bards walk away as graduates. Bard focuses such as Eloquence, Glamour, and Whispers are found here.

Outside of spellcasting, classes such as dance and etiquette are taught here. Which has drawn a few non-magic people to the halls, especially nobles in training.

Tremora, College of Evocation

("Trem-or-uh") Current Headmaster: Seamus Sinclair

Like the flame, the magics of evocation can be used to bring great destruction or they can be used to rekindle the very flames of life. Tremora is a college all students must take several core classes in before they can graduate. It's the campus's closest equivalent to practical combat training and is one of the safest environments to learn combat magics. This means whether you are a cleric practicing your prayers and rites to grant divine recovery or you are sorcerer trying to gain control over the powers granted by your bloodline, it is all about honing your skills in the stresses of combat. The college has several extra dimensional spaces designed for combat of varying size and combatants.

Tremora is a busy school, with even non-magic using classes taking a few of its defensive courses. It is not unusual to see RAC recruits given access to introductory courses. Beyond the obvious even Bardic focuses such as Swords and Valor flourish here. It is the college for all walks of life.

Mefyce, College of Illusion

("Meh-fiss") Current Headmaster: Evanora Green

Mefyce is a tower on campus where you need to be exceptionally perceptive or accept that likely what you see is in fact what is or isn't actually there. The College of Illusion is about subtley and subterfuge of the mind. The spells and magic learned here is designed solely around that idea of tricking the senses both physically and mentally. Classes are designed both around the idea of seeing through and overcoming these illusions as well as crafting them, so they are impossible to penetrate. Recruits and specialist alike from the RAC and PLU take classes to help overcoming them as the skill is very useful in their fields. All bards have a natural affinity towards illusion magic and will take many classes to help bring something extra to their performances. Mefyce is also a common school of study for Clerics of the Trickery Domain.

Deagmore, College of Necromancy

("Dag-more") Current Headmaster: Margery Jourdemayne A school with a grim reputation, Daegmore is a college in the study of the field of Necromantic magic. From the most morally questionable, raising of the dead as servants to the more miraculous but equally morally questionable act of bringing someone back from the dead. Compared to all other colleges, Deagmore is the one that studies life the most. How it functions and how it works, what preserves it and what ends it. Some of the world's greatest physicians and doctors were graduates of Daegmore. While the artform harnesses necrotic energies when used offensively, it can also be used to bolster and defend. The headmaster, Margery Jourdemayne, does her best to provide Deagmore with a positive public relationship with the city.

Daegmore is also one of the leader in the field of forensics. It's rudimentary, but they have many labs for alchemy and autopsy which aids departments like the RAC and PLU with any invenstigations.

Stroudworth, College of Transmutation

("Strowd-worth") Current Headmaster: Alizon Pendle

"Now you see me! Now you don't," takes a whole new meaning when you enter the halls of Stroudworth. Within its chambers doors and stairs are always in flux, the very building itself enchanted. Students here study the art of altering the physical properties of creatures and objects. Be it as simple as controlling the dancing of a flame or causing a seed to sprout all the way up to granting plants the ability to speak or changing someone's shape into a dragon. If it deals with the altering of one's physical state, then Stroudworth is where you'd got to get some answers. The graduates of Stroudworth have the unique opportunity to enter into nearly any field due to the wide range spells in the transmutation field grand them. Many Potenza Lex Units have a couple of transmutation specialists in their rank due to their versatility in the field.

Purpose / Function

Its purpose is built into the very being of Magnus. To be the greatest source of magical knowledge and study in the entire world of Resa. Each year it keeps pushing and pushing that boundary. Greater discoveries, new inventions, and bold innovations.

Architecture

Each structure is uniquely different from one another to server their particular purpose. The open roof top of Vouseth allows the students to study and gaze at the stars unhindered. The courtyards of Nunmerth and Tremora allow for outdoor combat and defense training. The ever-changing hands of the clocktower of Stroudworth representative of the great change and constant evolution of things as time passes. Gilston, a structure not unlike a great mansion where banquets and dances mix with classrooms.

Defenses

Outwardly it does not appear defended by any normal means. Of course, anyone with a braincell would be able to assume that the grounds of the greatest sources of magical knowledge and study have some of the greatest defenses the world has ever seen. But, then again, no one has truly tried to assault the colleges themselves, not since the war between Magnus and Fusa, but even that was so minor that it didn't appear to result in any defensive measures being taken. To this day only the headmasters themselves are aware of the campus grounds true defenses.
