Choo Wei

Shogun of Gamani Choo Wei

Brother of the First Emperor of Shinjuku, current Shogun of Gamani and most respected general of Shinjuku's armies. He acted as his brother's first supporter, general and advisor thorough his ascent to power, and views his nephew as an illegitimate heir who in unfit to guide the people of Shinjuku. Out of respect for his late brother's wishes, and a mild amount of piety towards the Dragon Gods, he has permitted Tsun Wei to exist on the throne uncontested. Although his advice would be welcome in strategic meetings, he is oddly silent and prefers instead to speak to fellow shogun and offer his aid outside of these meetings. A large portion of the shoguns defer to him, which is why he does not wield this power publicly in a way that would embarrass or demean Tsun Wei's position as Divine Emperor.

Personal history

Born 15 years after Riku Wei, Choo followed in his brother's footsteps. Unlike the adults around him, Riku listened and answered fully when Choo asked questions and later would engage him in meaningful debate. This made Choo feel like his brother was the only one who saw and valued him. As Riku gained the support of others and ascended to Emperor, Choo was proud to be named his advisor. His bitterness towards being eclipsed by his brother's popularity was surpassed by his unshaking love and devotion for the brother who also recognized his talents. This inner conflict manifested in a disdain towards Tsun Wei, Riku's adopted son, as he could not accept him as a true family member and was jealous of the attention Riku subsequently lauded onto Tsun Wei. Brilliant tactician and strategist, Choo got used to being behind the scenes and guiding those around him. When Riku died in the battle of Kuju, Choo was devastated and blamed himself. Since the rest of the nation did as well, Choo Wei never fully recovered from this event.

Education

Mentored by Riku and taught by many of his later teachers.

Accomplishments & Achievements

History does not publicly credit Choo Wei with anything, however he was pivotal to everything that happened in Shinjuku until Riku Wei's death.

Failures & Embarrassments

Riku Wei's death in the Battle of Kuju

Mental Trauma

The death of his brother. Choo Wei was present in the Battle of Kuju, but was leading a separate force when Riku was slain. He watched his brother die and was unable to intervene to save him. He, and the majority of the nation, blamed himself for being unable to protect Riku Wei. He has a great deal of survivor's guilt, echoing the nation's sentiment that it would have been better if he had died in Riku's place.
When Tsun Wei replaced him in role as his brother's most treasured family member, Choo felt like the sole person who acknowledged him had been ripped away. He felt isolated and lost and insanely jealous of this new child, and consequently could never fully accept Tsun Wei as his nephew.

Morality & Philosophy

Pragmatic like his brother, but much less frank. He prefers to face problems by talking others around to his perspective and then allowing them to make the changes necessary.

History

Choo does not view Tsun Wei as legitimate family, but deigns to permit his rule as Emperor for the good of Shinjuku. Tsun Wei respects Choo's expertise and input, and would give him significantly more opportunity to advise him if Choo was willing. Choo instead discusses his input with fellow Shoguns who later propose these strategies for him to publicly support. Choo does not openly disrespect the Emperor, and in fact seeks out ways to enact any idea Tsun proposes that Choo thinks is clever or beneficial for the nation. They work well together due to their mutual desire to see Shinjuku flourish.
