Harlequin

Harlequin are a religious group dedicated to the worship of Iocus, The One Who Laughs.  They are focused on the goal in ensuring that the city of Elysium does not fall into the despair of their environment.

Mythology & Lore

Because of the very nature of Iocus, The One Who Laughs, there are many conflicting stories that those of Harlequin believe.    Some believe that Iocus, The One Who Laughs is a fey lord of the underground, responsible for the existence of the fey.   Some believe that the Iron Rain exists solely as an attempt to remove Iocus, The One Who Laughs from Reldaz   Some believe that Iocus, The One Who Laughs is the reason why the people of Elysium were able to survive underground.    Some believe that Iocus, The One Who Laughs lives in Elysium.

Tenets of Faith

Ethics

Of the many religions within the city of Elysium, Harlequin are some of the most approachable. They love helping others, they love talking and sharing their beliefs, and they also love pulling pranks on stuck up or mean citizens. They stand out in a crowd by design, and like when people look at them. They help the downtrodden, feed the hungry, and help the city how they can.    They are strange in their ways, but sometimes strange is what is needed.

Worship

Worship within the religion is typically done in the following ways:
  • Helping: In order to help spread joy as much as they can, they do all they can to help out those who need help.
  • Pranks: A particular favorite of the Harlequin, especially to those who are mean to others, or are extremely successful. The prank is considered a far better form of worship as well if you don't get caught for the prank.
  • Parties: Self-explanatory. Nothing is more fun and joyful than a good party. The moore the merrier.

Priesthood

The priesthood of Harlequin is very chaotic and confusing.   First of all, when another member of the faith addresses one another, they do not use a title or even their real names. They address each other as Harlequin. Many members of the faith also disguise themselves with face paint or wear face masks. While it is understood that there is some form of organization within the religion, this is also essentially unconfirmed and also a belief within the religion itself.    As such, the religion itself seems very disorderly and chaotic, but still seems to keep a general sense, order, and purpose.

Political Influence & Intrigue

Like all religions, they work with the Guild of Mages to train their clerics, paladins, and warlocks. While the Harlequin do not seem to have any direct support of the "True Council" beyond the Guild of Mages, they do have the support of many of the smaller guilds within The Council itself. This is due to fact that they essentially help all those who need help. The major guilds are self-sufficient and thus do not need the support of Harlequins.
