General
The number one pennant is a signal flag from the
International Code of Signals and it represents the number one, it has no secondary meaning. The number pennants are generally not hoisted as single flags. They are to be hoisted in combination with a letter signal flag to represent something.
Design
The flag is tapered towards the
fly. The field is
argent with an
gules disc in the centre (horizontally) about one third from the length from the
hoist.
Alternate use
Sailing yacht owners do use this pennant flying from the backstay about head height from the deck to signal that they are sailing solo, aka there is only one person onboard.
Note
Captain Jacobson has used this last fact to his advantage while sailing the Narwhal to pick which ship to try to attack.
