Pirate paperwork

Pirates are well known for their dislike of rules, regulations and any form of government. But even their own special form of society needs some guidelines, a pirate code if you will. These rules are written down in the Ship's Articles. These articles were kept short and to the point, written down in simple language, clear to understand by all. And every person who joined the ship or crew would have to sign them, or leave the ship.

These articles explained how the shares of treasure were divided among the different crew members. What kind's of crimes were met with which punishments. When it was okay to argue a decision, and when it was necessary to obey (Black flag or Red flag). Which special rules applied on a ship, no smoking in the powder room. And how much compensation was payed to crew members who got injured on the job. A valued crew member might receive pay for life (or as long as the pirating lasted) when they became so injured they couldn't sail anymore.

Sunset Dawn

When the Pirate Crew of Peter James Jacobson split up. New articles had to be drawn up, for the group that took the Sunset Dawn to sea. The Narwhal kept with the old articles, as they are ship bound. After two days of discussion on the beach, with many back and forth arguments. It was agreed that the Articles they had on the Narwhal were actually fine, and they'd just copy them word for word. With only one spelling mistake that got taken out.

No smoking in the powder room is a very good rule!
