Area - Bleyd Vale

The Bleyd Vale is a scenic valley in southern Ardechia, forming part of the greater Heartlands region.

General area

The valley enjoys a temperate climate and is encircled by forested hills on all sides except the north-west, where it opens into the expansive Heartlands plains of the Ardecha Polya. It lies just below the northern foothills of the Messial Mountains, often referred to as the "shadowy side." These mountains, facing north, receive limited sunlight during autumn and winter, lending the area its pale gray hue and its name.   "Bleyd" translates to "Pale" in the common tongue, a reference to the pale rocky faces of the northern Messial Mountains that dominate the valley's skyline. To some foreigners, the name also evokes the word "Blade", a fitting association given the valley's bloody history. It was here, during the Great Migrations, that the invading Slaya peoples drove out the native Feynarin at the point of a sword.   The Lyuba River, whose name means "Beloved", flows gracefully through the valley, originating in the mountains and meandering northward to the Heartlands. At the heart of the vale lies Lake Bleysko, which translates roughly to "Belonging to Bleyd", a serene body of water central to the valley's settlements and life.

Bleyd & Lyubno

When the first Slaya Humans claimed the valley, two brothers emerged as leaders, each with a vision for where to establish the seat of Human civilization in this lush and bountiful vale.   One brother, a fervent devotee of the Church of the Mason, championed the southern banks of Lake Bleysko. He envisioned a forge town nestled near the mineral-rich foothills of the Messial Mountains, where industry could thrive.   The other brother, valuing the fertile land and abundant sunlight on the northern banks, advocated for an agricultural hub to sustain their growing population with crops and livestock.   The brothers’ arguments eventually led to a division. Each took their followers and founded separate towns: Bleyd, near the mountains and focused on industry, and Lyubno, in the sunny northern fields and dedicated to agriculture. Thus began an age-old rivalry between the two towns. Despite their differences, they remain interdependent, with Bleyd supplying minerals, stone, and tools, and Lyubno providing grain, honey, wine, wool, and other essentials. Their cooperation, albeit reluctant at times, has allowed the valley to flourish and maintain its prominence within the Heartlands.
