City - Razpotye

Location

Razpotye, meaning "Crossroads" in the common tongue, lies at the heart of the central plains of Ardecha Polya. Its name reflects its strategic location at the intersection of major trade routes. Paved highways connect Razpotye to nearby cities: north-east to Vrhovec and Rastina in the Bogland, south-west to Novigrad, upstream along the River Lyuba to Bleyd, and downstream to Belyak and Beligrad.   The city also sits on the widest navigable part of the River Lyuba, allowing smaller ships to travel up from the River Bela. A wide bridge spans the Lyuba, allowing both land and water traffic.

The City

Razpotye is a bustling regional trade hub, with merchants and travelers from all directions passing through its well-maintained roads and secure infrastructure. The city is renowned for its lively markets, where exotic goods and vibrant stalls draw visitors from across the plains. However, the markets are also infamous for pickpockets, with rumors of a thriving Thieves' Guild lurking beneath the surface.     Beyond commerce, Razpotye is an intellectual center, home to one of Ardechia’s three major universities, where scholars and bright minds gather to exchange ideas.   The city is fortified with thick stone walls, while its buildings blend stone, brick, and timber for durability and charm. The river port, though small, accommodates a modest number of vessels, with smaller barques able to navigate further upstream.

Surroundings

Razpotye is encircled by a natural moat formed by offshoots of the River Lyuba and its tributaries. Nearby, a minor woodland covers rolling hillocks before giving way to vast open fields. The forest and its wildlife are protected as the hunting grounds of the local lord, Staryan Marich, and poaching is considered a serious crime.   Several rural farming villages dot the roads leading to the city, consisting of modest wooden huts. North-west of Razpotye lies Marich Manor, the lord's gated estate, complete with extensive gardens. Known for his wealth and influence, Lord Staryan frequently hosts lavish banquets, flaunting his family’s generations of prosperity due to the province’s success.   To the north-east of the city is a tournament ground, where seasonal events like dueling and jousting are held. Sponsored by Lord Staryan, these tournaments are a highlight of the region and attract participants and spectators from far and wide.
