Feynarin Ethnicity in Realms of Kleriel | World Anvil

Feynarin

Description

The Feynarin, colloquially recognized as Wood Elves due to their profound druidic essence, are the ancient guardians of the Arborian territories, home of their mystical Feywood forests, and predating the eras of the Great Migrations. Renowned for their tranquil demeanor and diplomatic approach to conflicts, they prioritize harmony and balance above all else. With an unwavering dedication to environmental preservation, the Feynarin have wielded their potent druidic enchantments for millennia to safeguard and rejuvenate the heart of nature. It's whispered among many that the Feynarin's bond with the environment is so profound that they've forged a sacred covenant with Mother Nature herself, receiving unparalleled blessings in return for their unceasing stewardship of the wilderness.

History

Early Druids

Shrouded in enigma, the initial chapters of Feynarin's legacy paint a picture of unity and seclusion. While adjacent Elven dominions squabbled and skirmished in their quests for imperial ascension, the Feynarin, often referred to simply as the "Fey", focused their collective energies on the cultivation of their luxuriant northern sanctuaries. This harmonious civilization was segmented into various druidic conclaves, some of which persist to this day.   Yet, peace was periodically tested. The ambitious Vallarei from the south, known for their territorial aspirations, recurrently trespassed upon the verdant expanses of Arboria. To the Fey, these intrusions, especially by those who bore malevolent intentions, were intolerable. Defenders not just in spirit but also in action, the Feynarin combined their druidic powers with the wrath of nature's sentinels to repel such intruders. Hence, the land of Arboria garnered a reputation of being not only enchanting but also formidable, a realm immortalized in folklore and whispered legends across the continents.

Twilight of Internal Strife

Ironically, the most formidable adversity faced by the Feynarin wasn’t borne from external foes but emerged as a shadowy affliction from their own midst, a sinister corruption infused by an Old God. This malevolence not only threatened their precious Elderwood but also cleaved their unity, dragging Arboria into a tumultuous civil war. In an unforeseen twist of fate, they sought assistance from their erstwhile adversaries, the Vallarei of the Vallerian Empire. United in purpose, both realms managed to quell the insidious corruption, albeit leaving the Feynarin spiritually and territorially scarred. To fortify their security and mend their weakened state, Arboria voluntarily became a protectorate of the Vallerian Empire, a pact that would hold firm for centuries.

An Era of Unity and the Rise of Kleriel

In the enduring stability, the Feynarin and Vallarei forged a bond deeper than political alliance. The rejuvenation of Arboria proceeded in tandem with the Vallerian Empire’s expansion, leading to a harmonious union with the eastern power, Xia. Subsequently, Arboria was gracefully integrated into the majestic Kleriel Imperium. Within this vast expanse, the Feynarin, akin to their Elven counterparts, touched the precipice of divinity, flourishing under the aegis of an undying emperor. However, this golden age met a cataclysmic end when disputes over divine rights ignited between the Elves and Dwarves, culminating in the world-altering event, The Cataclysm.

Survival in a Fractured World

Post-Cataclysm, the Feynarin bore the brunt of a ruthless Ice Age that decimated their once-verdant sanctuaries. They clung to the remnants of their deepest woods, only to be relentlessly pursued and nearly annihilated during the Human Great Migrations. Fanatical followers of the Mason, who branded magic as vile, indiscriminately razed vast expanses of their eastern forests.   In the current age, the remaining Feynarin predominantly reside in Arboria's southern territories, specifically within the Sturmgard and Lynoran enclaves. Remarkably, the western Humans migrants who acrossed the Nord Sea proved to be allies rather than adversaries in the face of a shattered world. Conversely, their eastern kin faced devastation, with survivors seeking refuge either westward in Sturmgard or venturing south across the Valpine Mountains, where Valleria safeguards another lasting Arborian enclave.

Arhitecture

The essence of Feynarin architecture lies not just in its physical form, but in the harmony it achieves between nature and inhabitant. Every structure is an ode to the vast, mystical woods of Arboria and the druidic enchantments that course through the veins of the Feynarin.

Key Elements

  Organic Materials:
  • Every building, pathway, and bridge is crafted from the woods of Arborian trees, each plank and beam preserving the tree's natural grain and texture.
  • Thatched roofs and moss-covered walls are common, providing both insulation and a seamless blend with the surroundings.
  Elevated Living:
  • Structures predominantly reside high in the treetops, shielded by the canopy and elevated from the forest floor.
  • This vertical living is facilitated by an intricate web of walkways, suspended bridges, and spiraled staircases that connect various dwellings.
  Nature-Infused Design:
  • Windows are often round or organically shaped, mimicking the forms found in nature.
  • Balconies and terraces are festooned with hanging gardens, allowing residents to cultivate flora or simply bask in nature's embrace.
  Bioluminescent Illumination:
  • The Feynarin utilize bioluminescent plants and fungi for lighting, which imbue their settlements with a soft, ethereal glow.
  • Floating lanterns, tethered to structures or freely drifting, supplement this natural lighting, particularly during ceremonies or celebrations.
  Artistic Embellishments:
  • Elven artistry is evident in the intricate carvings that adorn doorways, beams, and pillars. These designs often depict historical events, mythical creatures, or symbols of druidic significance.
  • Splashes of color are occasionally added through vibrant mosaics or stained glass, each piece telling a story or representing a facet of Feynarin culture.

Clothing

General Aesthetics:   Feynarin clothing embodies the very spirit of the Arborian woods. It's an ethereal blend of nature's bounty and intricate craftsmanship, appearing as though it has sprouted from the ground and woven itself around the wearer. The designs are fluid, merging seamlessly with the wilderness around them.   Materials:   The primary fabric is a light, breathable material that, at a glance, could be mistaken for finely spun silk, yet upon closer inspection reveals itself to be interwoven with the delicate fibers of Arborian plants.   Color Palette:   Earthly hues dominate Feynarin fashion. Deep forest greens, soft mossy undertones, and muted browns mirror the shades of the woods, while the more prominant Fey also wear white, representing purity, wisdom, and grace. Pops of vibrant colors, reminiscent of the luminous flora found in Arboria's hidden groves, are also common.   Details and Accessories:   Feynarin clothing is adorned with intricate embroidery, often depicting the sacred patterns of nature - spirals representing growth, waves for the ebb and flow of life, and tree motifs showcasing their deep connection to the woods. Accessories often include diadems or circlets crafted from intertwining vines, inset with precious gemstones. Necklaces, bracelets, and belts are commonly made from braided plant fibers, interspersed with enchanted charms or talismans.   Additonally, headdresses made of antlers or flowers may signify a deep connection to the flora or fauna of Arboria, while staffs carved with natural symbols hints at powerful druidic abilities.   Footwear:   Footwear is designed to tread lightly on Arborian grounds. Soft-soled shoes or boots, crafted from the supple bark of trees and cushioned with moss, allow the Feynarin to move silently through the forests, leaving no trace behind.   Utility:   Practicality is not sacrificed for aesthetics. Pouches and satchels, made from the same Arborian fabric, are frequently attached to belts or draped across the body. These are essential for carrying herbs, potions, tools, or other instruments. The deep pockets, as seen in the image, indicate a preparedness for journeying or performing rituals.
