Dwarves

HISTORY

Origin

Dwarves have long been known for their affinity for all things mechanical, a mastery of craftsmanship that has been honed over the centuries. They have been the pioneers in the realm of innovation and industrialization, particularly during the epoch known as the 2nd World. However, their great advancements came at a devastating cost. The Cataclysm, a catastrophic event that shook the very core of the world, hit the Dwarves hardest. From a race teeming with possibility and vision, they were reduced to the brink of extinction, their once-mighty halls now ringing with the echoes of their lost glory.

Post-Cataclysm

The Cataclysm left an indelible mark on Dwarven society, shifting their focus towards preserving what remained rather than innovating for the future. Over the years, they have developed a labyrinthine bureaucracy riddled with age-old traditions designed to forestall rapid changes. To outsiders, this appears as a society clinging desperately to its past, unable to look forward or take risks.
Despite these challenges, several Dwarven nations have managed to survive and even thrive. Their diaspora has spread far and wide, finding homes in the realms of other races, but the heart of Dwarven culture remains in the kingdoms that have managed to hold onto their ancient ways.

Present Day

Today, a few Dwarven nations stand as stalwart remnants of a bygone era. Among them, the Dwarfholds of Ezrenhelm stands as a unique example of Dwarven openness and cooperation. Unlike its more isolationist counterparts, Ezrenhelm has extended the olive branch to both Humans and Elves, forging alliances based on mutual respect and shared interests. As a result, it remains the only Dwarven realm openly accessible to outsiders.

DESCRIPTION

Dwarves are robust, stout beings with a physical constitution that speaks to their hardy nature. Their facial features are often set in stern expressions, highlighting their stoic and determined personalities. Their affinity for craftsmanship extends beyond machines to intricate beard styles and tattoos, which are a key part of their cultural identity.   While their society might appear rigid and overly traditional, their individual personalities often reflect a keen sense of humor, bravery, and a knack for problem-solving. They are inventors at heart, and despite the institutional hurdles of their governments, Dwarven craftsmen continue to produce marvels in the fields of metallurgy, engineering, and even alchemy.   Innovation may have slowed, but it never stopped. Though The Cataclysm left them cautious and guarded, it failed to quell their heroic spirit and thirst for discovery. Dwarven heroes are still sung about in tales that echo through the stone halls of their homes - ballads of valor, ingenuity, and an indomitable will that refuses to bow, even in the face of overwhelming odds.   Though few in number, the Dwarves remain a force to be reckoned with. Rooted in history, tradition, and the painful lessons of the past, they stand as a living testament to the resilience and resourcefulness of their kind. In the world of endless possibility and lurking danger, the Dwarves have not forgotten who they are - they remain builders, heroes, and survivors.
