The Under-empire

Shrouded in the mists of time in the aftermath of The Cataclysm, much of Dwarven history remains buried deep within the world's bowels. This cataclysmic event upheaved the earth, sealing ancient strongholds with rubble, inundating them with water, or engulfing them in molten magma. Despite this loss, it is universally acknowledged that all Dwarves once thrived under a singular High King. This ruler presided over a colossal Under-empire, its expanse weaving through the underground realms of Kleriel and possibly extending to other continents.
The Valpine Mountains, the cradle of the Ezren Dwarves, were located on the edges of what was once the imperial core. Nevertheless, this region flourished, blessed with abundant resources that elevated the Valpines to a prestigious status within the empire. Their domain was a labyrinth of grand halls, vast mining complexes, impregnable vaults, all interconnected by the legendary Underway - a subterranean network linking every corner of their expansive empire.

The Collapse

Ironically, their geographic position within the empire turned out to be a boon during The Cataclysm. As the world fractured, the empire's core crumbled, nearly eradicating the Dwarves. The Ezren, along with a few other outlying cultures, narrowly escaped total annihilation. Despite losing much of their deeper holdings, their inherent adaptability and resilience enabled them to rebuild and even surpass their former glory, fueled by new ideas and innovations.

The 3rd World
