Humans

History

Origin

A relative blink in the vastness of history, the emergence of Humans on the stage of the world is a testament to resilience, ambition, and adaptability. Although they are a young race, with their recorded history spanning just a smidge over a millennium, in that time, they've spread far and wide and traveled an evolutionary journey that most races cover in several. From their early tribal roots, where the echoes of primal chants and the heartbeats of drums marked the passing of days, they have risen with breathtaking speed. Their ascent is so phenomenal that they now stand shoulder to shoulder with the ancient and venerable Elves, a race that has seen eons come and go.   Theories about Humanity's sudden appearance in history are myriad, but many Humans believe that some form or other of ''the divine'' had a hand to play. Perhaps a gift or a chance mutation, but the Humans were destined for greatness. The Elder races meanwhile, such as the Elves, Dwarves, or the Drakkin, simply argue that Humanity's achievements were built upon the foundations which were already laid by them before their arrival.

The Great Migrations

Like a force of nature, the Humans embarked on the "Great Migrations." Their innate ability to adapt meant that they could settle in virtually any environment, from the frigid expanses of the northern tundras to the sizzling deserts of the south. The Realms of Kleriel, primarily domains of the Elves, saw the rise of Human settlements and cities at an unprecedented rate as they flooded the lands in the aftermath of the Cataclysm. Humans molded the land, tamed the wilderness, raising fortresses, and most impressively, adapting to the lands and climates of the regions they occupied. The cultures they swallowed in their migrations, they have either adopted aspects of and assimilated, or wiped them out entirely to replace with their own.

Present Day

The adaptability of Humans goes beyond mere climates and terrains. The innate Human talent for learning, creative thinking, and innovation has seen them become masters of both the arcane and the mechanical. Mages with powers rivalling Elvish sorcerers are as celebrated in their cities as engineers who harness the power of steam and gear to create devices of wonder that rivals Dwarven ingenuity. Steampunk cities with labyrinthine alleys filled with steam vents and cogs in Ardechia stand in stark contrast to the arcane enchantries and wizard towers that pierce the skies in Sturmgard, a testament to Humanity's dual mastery.   The Human spirit thrives on curiosity and challenge, which has seen them make advances in every field they've touched. From being the young upstarts of the world, they've become traders, diplomats, warriors, and scholars, often acting as the bridge between the old world traditions and new-age innovations.

Description

Physically diverse due to their adaptability, Humans can vary widely in height, build, and skin color, reflecting the multitude of climates and terrains they've settled in. Their eyes, often bright with curiosity and ambition, come in a range of colors.   Humans have an innate ability to persevere, always pushing their boundaries, whether in arcane studies or mechanical innovation. Their societies, while young, are vibrant, bustling hubs of activity where the clanging of a blacksmith's hammer can be heard alongside the murmured incantations of a street-side mage or priest.   Their rapid rise from tribal societies to formidable kingdoms is a testament to their resilience and ambition. While they do not possess the elongated history of the Elves or the deep traditions of the Dwarves or Drakkin, they make up for it with their passion, energy, and an insatiable desire to learn and grow.   Humans, in their essence, are the embodiment of potential, growth, and adaptability, forever eager to etch their mark on the annals of history.
